Titanic tourist sub missing

I’m sorry But this is a well stupid adventure to pay 250k for

Hard disagree. I'm not interested in the Titanic specifically, but certainly I'd love to take a trip on a submarine and see the ocean's deeps up close for myself. If I could go with my mum, who's studying geology at an Irish university, and an expert in oceanic geology as a guide, it would be a hell of an expedition.

I'm not gonna be all sour grapes about it just because I can't drop 250k on the experience.

Could be a very nasty [fatal] & expensive accident for the five people currently missing - not to mention the organising company.

As it has been some hours now, since the initial announcement, I'm losing hope that they've surfaced somewhere off course and have lost communications ...

Whereas I’m sure it’d be interesting, if I were to undertake a high(er) risk activity and had hundreds of thousands to spare, I’d rather go up to space for eight minutes in Richard Branson’s rocket.

I think we can rule out them being on the surface as I am pretty sure they would have a EPIRB radio beacon.

I read the craft is made out of carbon fibre...which is very difficult to detect defects in (there is no equivalent to x-raying steel pressure hulls) Presumably they are either hung up on the wreck or the pressure hull failed. Neither is a nice situation. There have been very few successful submarine rescues and there's cannot be a lot of submersibles that are available to provide much actual help.
With the number of super yachts with submersibles now, it's surprising this doesn't happen more often.

I'd sooner visit the Titanic on a one-way ticket than take a trip to space that involved spending time with Richard Branson, Elon Musk, or Jeff Bezos
I don’t think any of them would be onboard tbh, other than perhaps the maiden flight.

I hope it didn't somehow hit an iceberg

The company's CEO, Stockton Rush, could not be reached for comment Monday.

He spoke with CBC News in April, saying it was the earliest the expeditions had gone ahead. They typically aim for the summer months, since June is still iceberg season off the coast of Newfoundland.

"I've always wanted to see the icebergs or maybe even have the fortunate chance to dive next to one," he said. "So with the Polar Prince and its ice capabilities, we thought let's move the trip a little earlier this year."

Speaking of Bezos, the BBC live updates are reporting that it is believed British billionaire Hamish Harding, who had already been up in Bezos’s flying penis, was on board.

Titanium and carbon, you can see the pressure vessel about 3:55 in the video ed posted. Although not at all clear what is used where etc...

They have some more info (albeit not much) on the engineering on their youtube channel (scroll down a bit, built 6ish years ago).

It supposedly has enough air to last for 96hrs so there is a chance they may be alive but stuck on the bottom, There are specialist rescue subs that can go that deep I believe so it depends on how soon one can get there.
Personally I would prefer a trip aboard the Bearded Wonder's space plane myself rather than to the bottom of the Atlantic but whatever floats your boat or possibly not in this case.
This Hamish Harding character who I have never heard of was on the fifth flight of the Evil Overlord's Giant Space Phallus as well. It seems the Space Phallus has flown half a dozen times since Evil Overlord went up in it but the Bearded Wonder's competitor has only been up once since he did.

One of my worst nightmares is being on a submarine/submersible. Being on one at the site of something so frightening, to watch it loom out of the darkness, would be terrifying at the best of times. It seemed only a matter of time since something like this happened.

Never play the game Iron Lung.
