Zune 2

If the wifi thing works for things like photos I could see that being cool without using too much battery...
If it works properly - definitely.

I could see da Kidz using it to share snapshots and music files with their mates when they're out and about.

Unfortunately the Wifi sharing has a 3 play limit. I think that if this wasn't so steeped in DRM it would be a possible alternative to the iPod. But I bet its using MP11 and some MS store for DRM music.

Re:Zune Hacks
I managed to look a back issue of Popular Science, & they had some hacks to bypass DRM & render it capable of being used as a USB hard drive....
USB Hard drive
1) Install .NET Framework V2.0 from Microsoft.com
2) Download ZuneHd patch from cppworld.com/Zune/ZuneHDPatch.exe & run it on your PC....
The Zune can now be recgonised as a USB external Hard Drive
DRM Bypass
The DRM Bypass involves the following...
1) Alter the song files extension to .jpg & place the files into a subfolder within the recieved pictures folder, with a real .jpg image to another Zune
2)Zune "2", syncs with their PC, change the extensions back
Enable MP3 encoding
The Zune by default encodes music files as WMA...
To enable MP3 on your Zune, go to options/rip/format/MP3
The Zune should now play MP3 files...
YouTube addon
There's a Internet Explorer add on called ZuneMyTube at tinyurl.com/y2oomb, which enables you to downloadvideos from YouTube...

I mean for fuck sake, will people stop nobbling their products! People are going to hack the fuck out of them, if they don't nobody has bought it.

I've spent a good few hours today completing some research and have just ordered myself a Zune 80GB.

I think it sounds great and I've already owned an Ipod and a Creative Zen in the past. I fancy a change.

Without hacking - which the vast majority of normal users will be using it for, wifi is severly curtailed by MS's DRM obsession. What's the point if tunes are disabled after three plays?

It's there so that users can "sqwert" pictures and other rubbish to each other, anything "valuable" or "usable" like, um music is pointless.

Can't remember who said it, but when Steve Jobs announces a new device like the iTouch, it all looks very swish, but when Steve Balmer announces functions like "sqwert" on the Zune, you feel like you need a wash afterwards?

It'll never take off. Mark my words... :p

Wow - it's got an FM radio! I'm sold on it, 'cos I lurve to listen to mini-cabs and Capital Radio! And made by a convicted monopolist, to boot - i want to give my money to criminal gangs in suits, I really doooo!!!!

I'll be interested.

I think you'll regret this, but I'm interested nonetheless because nobody else in the universe has one and so I have no idea what the things are like to use :D

It arrived yesterday and I've just got round to looking at it tonight.

It feels and looks fantastic. Once I've synced all my stuff and had a play, I'll report back.

I was just skimming this thread after it popped up and thinking "have I taken the piss yet? Have I been neglecting my duties?"
