Inspired by hitmouse's thread on Sath Efrica, something on Zimbabwe's upcoming election, due next summer.
While outcomes in the Zimbabwean case were in many ways worse than what happened in South Africa (though the former did much better - yes, really - in regard to land reform than the latter has so far), what strikes me comparing the two is that in Zim's case it still feels like there's everything to play for, which you don't get in the SA case. In that case, it feels much more like an entire, giant country, spinning its wheels in the mud.
