"Zero grazing" for dairy herds.

Try and buy organic milk - ie certified by the soil association - then you will know what standards it has to meet.
I do find it quite ironic that, in a large proportion of smaller towns and villages, a person has to travel to a large evil supermarket to get the sorts of produce that's ethically sound on animals  Most local convenience shops only have Express Dairies stuff.

the run away capitalist/consumer economy that gives us miserable diseased animals standing in their own shit for a couple of years before being strung up with their throats slit is the same system that gives us call center workers doing ten hour shifts with few breaks and timed toilet breaks.........

and it originates from that bastion of self regulation and corporate freedom to do what the fuck they want to increase profits.........

the good ol USA..........

with one of the worse offending states being Texas..........

that just happens to be where most of the neo con fascist child murdering oil bought globalist moloch worshipping front men (bohemian grove exclusive male membership, women only maids and cooks) come from...........

so maybe the way they view animals differs little from the way they view humans...........

ie........

anything goes for profit............

If you want to look for the origin of the plc and the stockmarket then you should really look at London.

It is a bit unkind not to allow the animals normal exercise.

Does anyone know what effect this has on the meat and milk? My guesses are that it has no effect on the quality of the milk and it makes the meat very tender but less flavoursome.

OTTOMH the composition of the milk, specifically omega 3/6 balance, is adversely affected by feeding ground up 'stuff' instead of grass but the quantity is much greater.

Animals intended for eating would not be kept this way - it's too expensive a way to raise beef that tastes like crap. Beef cattle mostly eat grass.

I've just seen this on the excellent Countryfile program: over 5% of UK farmers are now employing the disgraceful practice of "zero grazing" for their dairy herds.

This involves keeping cows locked up indoors in metal pens with concrete floors for their entire lives, like factory chickens - instead of going out to pasture, they are fed 'high yield' food in troughs.

The farmers blame the pressure from supermarkets, but surely even the most full-on of meat eaters/milk-swillers can see that this practice is simply plain wrong, no?

Tch, that's a bit of a shame. Good thing it's happening to cows and not human beings, really :)

Fucks sake, there are human beings starving out there, people with no homes, people who work in the shittiest conditions imaginable just to make rent every week, and what are these viva numpties on about? Cows not having enough bloody leg room
