He was almost the democratic candidate in the late 60s as well - on a clear pull the troops out platform i think.

That's correct and as I recall there was a slogan "Get clean for Gene".

I once voted in one of the US elections in the 70's. I voted for Eugene McCarthy, a third party candidate who claimed to be for the 'yoof'.

Eugene McCarthy went for the Democratic Presidential candidature in 1968 & 1972..

Tries to work out nino's age calculates must be over..

he was kinda responsible for the start of Hunter S Thompsons political career too!

Yup, he was solidly troops out now, & on 'get clean for Gene' - Some antiwar students who had the long-haired appearance of hippies chose to cut their long hair and shave off their beards, in order to campaign for McCarthy door-to-door, a phenomenon that led to the informal slogan "Get clean for Gene."

Sometimes on Match of the Day, when taliking about some particularly ancient goalie, they say 'he has apperared in the top flight in 3 separate decades'. My voting/non-voting record is similar :( Basically, Labour through till 1997, but haven't troubled the scorers since.

1972? Voted for me dad in a local election. He stood as a Independent council tenant.
1974 Feb. I think I voted Liberal as a tactical vote
1974 Oct. Didn't vote
1975 Euro ref voted No
Haven't voted since.

Might be worth updating this, since a decade and change has passed by.

2015: Labour (reluctantly).
2016: (EU referendum) Remain.

Actually I have just remembered who I voted for in the 2014 European elections, it was the NO2EU party, a coalition of the Socialist Party, Communist Party and the RMT.

2001 - I voted, can't remember who for. Didn't know shit about politics, didn't care. My mum was pissed off at my choice, which means it probably wasn't Tory, but I can't be sure. Just wanted to see what voting was like (rubbish).

2005 - no vote

2010 - green (a mate)

2015 - tusc (a mate)

2017 - Labour
