probably

Sparklehorse - Vivadixiesubmarinetransmissionplot
Neutral Milk Hotel - In An Aeroplane Over The Sea
Leatherface - Mush
Van Morrison - Astral Weeks
Low - Things We Lost In The Fire

Shortlist..
Thin Lizzy - Live & Dangerous
Broken Family Band - Welcome Home Loser
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Henry's Dream
The Congos - Heart of the Congos
Shellac - 1000 Hurts
I've only heard The Congos album out of that lot

I'd probably like the Shellac and I like Nick Cave but because I am an ignoramus, I unthinkingly put the likes of Sparklehorse, Low and NMH in the category I call 'whiny shit' ;)

Superb choice. That album influenced my style even as a jungle/garage/grime/bashment DJ, few other DJs can even come close to Jeff Mills.
Hmmm, I was thinking of artist albums when I did my list.

If I include compilations then I'd have Live at the Liquid Rooms too for sure but it's not my favourite mix. That's probably Blu Peter's Reactivate 10 one.

I can't show you the entire list, since us anoraks don't like to tell people about the most secret music we love to love in solitude, lest the evilcool people STEAL it from us, and spoil the purity of it by pimping it out to the mainstream and writing about it in magazines-
soon everyone else will know about it and listen to it too- and THEN we won't have any lovely secrets to comfort us, and we won't feel special anymore :(

YOU ARE JOKING!
Uggh!

I don't make the distinction between 'artist albums' and mixes really

:D It's brilliantly bouncy and fun and pretty much every track is a classic.
For me that mix is pretty much the touchstone for when techno split into two camps - good quality po-faced techno and poopy trancy acidy techno:p

1. Guns N Roses - Appetite For Destruction
2. Rolling Stones - Exile On Main Street
3. The Beatles - White Album
3. Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin IV
5. The Smiths - The Queen Is Dead

today i would choose some sort of combination of...

nirvana - in utero
arcade fire - funeral
...and you will now is by the trail of dead - source tages & code
jane's addiction - nothing's shocking
pop will eat itself - this is the day, this is the hour, this is this

What's good quality about a drum machine and an occasional "ping"? You want layers of growling 303s & hoovers. :D

this is hardcore - pulp
hot fuss - the killers
scissor sisters - scissor sisters
modern life is rubbish - blur
come find yourself - fun loving criminals

as i type this, even i have to concede that doesn't look very impressive. they're not the cds i listen to most, either. mostly i listen to compilations - but i don't really count them as albums, because they aren't that shaped entity of themselves.

favoured compilations include:

voice of the beehive
the cure
dean martin
various sixties soul cds.

(no particular order)
1. Manic Street Preachers - The Holy Bible
2. Blur - Parklife
3. Weezer - Pinkerton
4. Elliott Smith - Figure 8
5. Lemonheads - A Shame About Ray

Shortlist:
1. Radiohead - Kid A
2. Oasis - Definatly Maybe (but spelt right)
3. Neutral Milk Hotel - In An Aeroplane Over the Sea
4. Nirvana - In Utero
5. Nick Drake - Pink Moon

as ever this list would change every day

Top Five
1. Electric - The cult
2. Massive Attack - Blue Lines
3. Leftism - Leftfield
4 Ten - Pearl Jam
5. Passion and warfare - stevie Vai

short list
Prince -sign o time
Alanis Morrisette - jagged little pill
Pink Floyd - dark side of the moon
Oasis- definatly maybe
INXS - Kick

I LOVE PAssion and Warfare.I relive my youth through it :)

Number 1 is the Wu-Tang Clan's "Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)", and then, after much deliberation the following four in no particular order;

The Buzzcocks - "Singles Going Steady"
Basement Jaxx - "Kish Kash"
Chuck Berry - "The Anthology"
Girls Aloud - "Sound Of the Underground"

I selected these five to provide as much of a variety of my tastes as possible, so the Wu prevented any of Dre's work getting in, likewise the Jaxx with Daft Punk, and they are liable to change on any given day, and as I acquire more albums. They are in no way wholy representative of my likes and dislikes though, although "Enter...." will remain my ultimate for the forseeable future.
