Your Top 10 Most Hated Bands / Artists

"Hate" is usually too strong an emotion when dealing with music I don't like. Generally, I just think it's shit. Sometimes, I'll try to see what others see in it or appreciate the wider impact whilst understanding that it a) subjective and b) that I know little about music beyond my own tastes and preferences.

With one exception.

I don't know why, but ever since my adolescence the music of Mick Hucknall and Simply Red has provoked me to an almost physical reaction. My dog-whistle response is to want to destroy the radio/TV the sound is emanating from. God forbid someone is actually singing along or otherwise enjoying this effluent. It makes me want to burn the room.

I understand that this isn't rational, and anyone who has an adequate explanation for why I want to behave in this way will earn my thanks. :hmm:

Former top hates Lighthouse Family, Dido, M People and James Cunt have long since disappeared.

Hate to break it to you, but the singer from Lighthouse family is pushing solo material, Dido has a new album out and M People are on some sort of anniversary tour. :hmm:

My hate list is more targetted at indie landfill shit that sometimes ruins the otherwise great 6 Music... The Killers, Palma Violets, bands that aren't even worth taking the names of ( :) ) because they just sound like every other terrible 'indie' band that students are attracted to like flies round shit... oh, and Adele. How so many have bought into her utter tedium, I'll never know. :D

Yes it mostly is an ironic thing and it's really fucking annoying for those of us old enough to have had to endure them the first time around (but I guess that's maybe all part of the irony, it being a generational thing). You've just reminded me of something from last week - I went to see Laurel Halo, who IMO is one of the most talented and interesting electronic musicians working today, but she is also decidedly one of the hippest, and you can bet she knows it. I liked her set (even though it wasn't quite what I'd hoped for) but what really irritated me was that she wore a brand new-looking Phil Collins No Jacket Required album t-shirt. Now at 27 she is too young to remember Collins' chart-topping heyday, and I flatly refuse to believe that anyone who makes the kind of music she does (and is classically trained too) would genuinely have any time for the kind of bollocks that Collins used to inflict on us. So for me that was an example of ironic (or perhaps it's even post-ironic, who knows?) hipster cool at it's worst.
Maybe she was just letting the audience know that she's an easy lover? ;)

is she a yank? i believe collins is more fondly regarded there than he is here - when they made a hip-hop tribute album, big name rap artists were queuing round the block to appear on it. even in the uk i know quite a few people who're serious about music who love him (mainly for the production of his songs than the music itself). and easy lover does sound great on a loud system. ;)

Yeah Phil C is one of those people i wouldve "hated" as a teenager but i can see where his attempt at soul music is coming from now... didnt he threaten to leave the UK if taxes went up/ Kinnock won, or something

Yes she is a Yank. That's no excuse!

I've read he denies saying that. But he has lived in Switzerland ever since!
