don't want him, all he'd do is sit on the bench and clean Rooney's boots...saying that is more than likely will come, the 'image' and all that Ballack should be main priority

We'll take owen for Ferdinand plus 15 million and still buy Ballack.

My probable team

..................................Robert Green..................................
Jurgen Colin...Jason Shackell.....Craig Fleming...Matthieu Louis-Jean
...............Dean Marney...Andy Hughes...Youssef Safri...............
.......Leon McKenzie.....Dean Ashton.....Darren Huckerby.......

A bit short on midfielders - Francis is being a dick - special mention to Paul Gallacher too, by the end of the season we'll have both the England and Scotland number 1 :)

Anyone from Spurs know about Marney?

Sorry to be pedantic - but there's actually five. Kelly and Reid are both from Repubic of Ireland.
I know but I'm going to out-pedant you and point out that I said "British Isles" so they both qualify, as does Keano.

Westerveld

Vignal
O'Brien
Stefanovic (c)
Griffin

Robert
Viafara
O'Neil
Mornar

Lua Lua
Karades

Subs: Ashdown, Cisse, Taylor, Mbesuma, De Zeeuw

Is this just your guess?
Thought De Zeeuw did pretty well as captain last season. And Westerveld in goal over Ashdown? Again, thought Ashdown did enough to have kept the gloves.

Here are the mighty seasiders.

1. Lee Jones

2. Mark Macgregor
3. Daniel Coid
4. Robert Edwards
5. Peter Clarke (c)

6. Keith Southern
7. Keigan Parker
8. John Doolan
11. Rory Prendergast

9. Scott Vernon
10. John Murphy

subs
12. Lewis Edge (gk)
13. Matthew Blinkhorn
14. Ciaren Donnely
15. Tony Butler
16. Jamie Burns

*Gareth Evans, first choice left back out for 3 months

It's a decent first XI but apart from Butler, no experience on the bench and perhaps a shocking lack of variety of options. Still - a lot better than the side that started last years first game.

and we just beat Chester 6-0.

I think ADZ is not going to be a starter for us, and that this will be his last season at P.F.C. Great servant to the club, but the new blood has to come through.

And I think Sandman has so much more as a keeper than Ashdown that he warrants that place :)

Porto

GK: Baía
LD: Leandro
CD: Pedro Emanuel
CD: Ricardo Costa
RD: Sonkaya
DM: Raul Meireles
CM: Lucho Gonzalez
FR: Postiga
F: Lisandro Lopez
CF: McCarthy
F: Jorginho

GK: Helton
LD: Nuno Valente
CD: Jorge Costa
DM: Bosingwa
CM: Ibson
AM: Diego
CF: Sokota

Defense is rubbish, as anyone that saw the Arse match last weekend noticed. Leandro isn't that good, Valente is over, Sonkaya is the only RD (and not even such a good one), Jorge Costa is getting (too) old, Pepe is rubbish, etc. Having a dutch coach doesn't make me more confident, too. The only spot where there are no problems is the goal - either Baía and Helton are more than qualified for the spot.

The midfield looks solid - Lucho has a lot of quality to display and Raul Meireles finally started to convince, but perhaps the biggest surprise is how Adriaanse pulled Postiga way back - I've seen him pick up play as behind as the midfield line. Given his problems to hit something remotly similar to a goal, I reckon he might do much better well far from it. On the other hand, Diego might well run out of favour, which might be either good or bad, depending on the amount of axing in his legs refs would allow this time. Ivanildo might well be one the best portuguese footballers in the future if he keeps up at this pace, and Bosingwa is always a reliable choice.

There are too much attackers, quality is there (Jorginho and Lisandro played well so far) but depends on how tuned McCarthy is, as he will always be the target man. If Almeida and Sokota together score 5/10 goals, I'll be pleased. On the negative side, Quaresma loses touch from season to season. He and Ronaldo were at the same level some three years ago, but the difference is that Quaresma stopped evolving, still playing like he was the only on his side. Unless he changes that behaviour of his, I can see him going to a UEFA hopeful in a couple of years. And of course, that would mean we've thrown out part of the Deco transfer (financially, seeing him win at Barcelona is a good replacement, at least for me).

beach and donkeys eh? Must tell Colin - he does appear to have lost his little book of football managers telephone numbers

I'm suprised Marney went because he's a real utility player - but I gues we have sufficient strength in depth everywhere and can let him have a full season.

It's not clear whether he's premiership class but if he is then he'll be a very useful player. He's very strong and hardworking - a tough tackler, he can and has played a lot in defence. He's also skillful and comfortable on the ball meaning when he is pushed further up field he can do a job.

Another impressive attribute is how he's not afraid to get involved and impose himself on the game. In the Peace cup he was stepping up for free kicks and played with self assurance that you might not suppose a young player would possess.

Sounds good - and, of course, he doesn't have to be "premiership class" this season :D

Worthy'll probably play him in midfield - we've a lot of defenders left from the previous Championship winning season plus the two new signings and Shackwell will hopefully have a first team place assured.

The problem in the Prem is that 10 teams didn't play 4-4-2 last season. If you're against 4-5-1, then your full backs are dedundant and your midfield is overrun, and that's just the start of your problems.

As other Spurs fans have posted their 4-4-2's, here's my formation against 4-5-1 only, probably at home to begin with:

___________Robinson

____Dawson - Naybet - King

Routledge - Tanio - Carrick - Davids - Reid

________Mido - Defoe

Prem quality, not sure whether he's borderline or better as he's not had a run in the team. I like him.

Great engine, can play anywhere on the right side, and actually a good box-to-box man as well as yer overlaping full back if you want that.

I doubt you could go wrong with Marney.

Craig Holloway

Scott Gooding Paul McCarthy James Smith Justin Skinner

Andy "Jukebox" Drury Bobby Bowry Jay Saunders Jimmy Jackson

Manny Omoyinmi Charlie MacDonald

Subs:

Aaron Kerr
Danny Slatter
Ross Smith
Ben Surey
Lee Protheroe

______Robinson

____Dawson - Naybet - King

Routledge - Tanio - Carrick - Davids - Reid

________Mido - Defoe
I'll go with that, although Zeigler might be better suited to wing back than Reidy who has a lot of weight to carry down the whole touch line. Also Huddlestone might go in for Naybet if he turns out to be as good as I hope.

He's saying that if he stays on the bench, he's looking to move.

Pericard and Toddie have been offered contracts again. Due to be loaned out before they play for Pompey. Let's hope they don't pick up another injury.

4-4-2

Robinson
Kelly
Edman
King
Dawson
Carrick
Davids
Routeledge
Reid
Defoe
Mido

Subs:

Take your pick from about a dozen players that range from very unlucky to just about competent for PL standards..

Another season - another fine squad ON PAPER. Just hope it translates into results

Robbo
Kelly Dawson King Edman

Routledge Davids Taino Ziegler

Mido Defoe

Yeah I agree, for about the third year running on paper we've got a good player in every position. But this year is different - we have a good manager too.

Fourth position is ours.

behave. your not going to finsih above one of man utd arsenal chelsea and liverpool. 6/7th place might be your but thats baout it.

this is why everyone takes the piss out of spurs fans, ideas well above your station.

dave

From current squad (god forbid)

Given
Carr
Boumsong
Bramble
Coco
Jenas
Parker
Emre
Dire
Shearer
Ameohbloodyhellobi/Bowyer

Ideally a new striker and a left midfielder (Boa Morte plus someone else) then Emre and Parker will boss midfield and Dyer will go wide

Leon, you've missed out the mighty Michael Carrick. He's our king-pin for the forseeable future for me, sitting deep and orchestrating proceedings. The Jol-father's key move was dropping Redknapp and playing Carrick instead. Davids is proven quality and I've heard loads of good shit about Tainio but Carrick has to be in and more or less build the team around him.

What do the many Spurs fans reckon to El Hamdoui (sp?)? He seems to be getting some props on Spurs boards but I'm not sure where he'll fit.

Good point. Or even Kelly. I suppose it would be King and Dawson plus one other from . . . several.

I saw him a couple of times in the reserves and was seriously underwhelmed. He may have moved on but we picked him up for nothing for a reason. He deos seemed to have improved his attitude recently from what I can see, but I'm not holding my breath - plenty of others to get excited about, though !

A lot of you Spurs guys reckon Mido will start ahead of Keane and Kanoute , Why is that ? I`m putting my Fantasy footy team together and Mido is cheap cheap cheap , I would have thoght Freddie were the better partner , why Mido ?

I put Mido ahead of Kanoute for two reasons

1. Mido has shed a fair bit of weight which to me is an indication that he means business, he impressed me last season and he looked very impressive in all the peace cup games I watched so for me he edges it so far

2. Lots of speculation about Kanoute moving on form Spurs which is unsettling, plus hes never really convinced me of his quality on a regular basis, bursts of excellence followed by.... well nothingness really, that and his shitty Mali break last season doesnt fill me with confidence

I put Mido ahead of Keane for one reason

Height........ Jermaine Defoe needs height with him upfront as he's a dwarf

Thanks for that , I`ve been doing a bit of googling and it seems that most of the Spurs faithful have the same opinion.

Mido it is then , he`s going to be playing alongside Henry and Bellamy , that should frighten a few defences I hope.
