Firefox is currently using 150,000K on my machine, so so much for that advice.

Just increase the page file size (Win-Break > Advanced > Performance > Advanced > Virtual Memory) by a gig and be done with it. If your machine is ocnstantly page faulting, you'll already know the performance is shit, and should upgrade the RAM, which is dirt cheap.
