Your Photographic Aspirations?

I'm very happy to hear that boskysquelch. For what it's worth, you've given me inspiration too. When I first got into this, you said something to the effect 'Try not to just take pictures of the flowers, try to take pictures of the light'

That remark is something that I do try to bear in mind, possibly with indifferent success, but it does seem to make a certain kind of sense to me.

Apart from wanting to ponce around in tight shorts with some expensive kit...

I'd be very happy if I could take photos with some emotional punch. Photos with stories to tell, images that provoke an emotional response from me. I like trying out different styles and don't yet feel that I've found a personal style (if indeed I need to find one), but I roughly know the kind of photos that I want to take and have more of a focus than before.

For example, this is one of my Flickr favourites, not by me but someone else.

I love photos which are other-wordly in some way, as if seen in a dream. Another Flickr favourite from someone else...

Looking at my favourites page has helped me to understand about what I enjoy in other people's photos and helps me to think about what I aspire to...

I like this one a lot, but it looks like it could have been taken in 1955 or, 1975 even

It's definitely got a timeless quality... but it was taken last year, according to the notes on Flickr.

I think Lightroom's vignetting tool is to blame.

In his comments page, the photographer says:

I just scanned it from a little 6x4" machine-print, not from the negative like most of my stuff, so it's a tad soft actually. That softness combined with the Lomo vignette gives that seventies effect you mention, just like the Holga picture of my mom right before this.
