Your nominations please, for albums of the year 2008

Reckon there ought to be a sweepstake on the Urban album of the year. I would make The Bug's London Zoo a clear favourite.

But my own faves this year were

'My Dearest Dear' by Michael Rossiter
'Help the Overdog' by Flake Brown
'Seymour Wright of Derby' by Seymour Wright
'Boycott Coca-Cola Experience' by the Boycott Coca-Cola Experience

rather weirdly I found myself liking bits of Erykah Badu's album this year, which is something I'd never have thought I'd catch myself saying...

Don't think much of Rough Trade's top 10. Seems near identical to what Mojo or Observer Music Monthly or any other Dad-tastic inkie would have.

though I must get round to checking out the Benga. You gotta rep for Croydon.

Should be interesting - I think there have been some fantastic albums this year but none have been that big a deal, there seem to have been clear possible winners in previous years but now? No idea.

naah, there's no obvious Radiohead or Burial, but thats a good thing. There are three stand out albums for me this year, and still the new Justice to come. Could be interesting.

I don't think it's in any order (judging by whats at number 1)

Takes a while to get through but I got through the first 200 and realised I'd forgot about
Okkervill River
O'Death
Black Mountain

Probably not worth voting for like other faves of the year The Donkeys and Ladyhawk (the ones from canada without an e)

I'm downloading as much stuff as I can locate on isohunt from these lists, in order to possibly find some last minute favourites to submit, and feel a bit cooler than I usually do when I can only think of about 2 things and have to wait til the Urban75 list is released in order to think of what to buy. :D

The year had seen no clear favourite for me... until last night, when I got home to find the new Fennesz album waiting for me on the mat.

Got the kids bathed and into bed, lay down on the living room floor and let it wash over me - absolutely fucking exquisite from start to end. The best album he's done and for me the best album of the year.

Yeah! The new Fennesz album is fucking amazing!
Beautiful.
Maybe not my album of the year but a very strong contender.

was that this year? Yet another I'd forgotten that was, if so. My top five really great albums is becoming longer by the post

Well the new Made Out of Babies is definitely going on my list for a start

If you took Bjork, fused her with Kat Bjelland, and got ensuing woman to front the Jesus Lizard, that's basically what MOOB sound like. They are awesome.

I liked some right rubbish this year. The best of that:

Hybrid - Soundsystem 01
Yann Tiersen - Tabarly
The Presidents of the United States of America - These Are the Good Times People
Noah and the Whale - Noah and the Whale
Camille - Music Hole
Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago

I'm too lazy to pick an order and PM so I'll leave it there.

i trust you. that bounder mauvais is just going to leave that list there and fuck off innit.

Ah, the Marcus Intalex Fabric mix was in the list one year though.
Studio albums are so out of date man.
Who ever listens to more than 2 or 3 tracks from an album these days anyhow, now we have iTunes?

How did I miss this thread?

It's difficult as there hasn't been a lot that has really caught my attention...

So far I have:

The Bronx - The Bronx (III or whatever, the one thing that annoys me about this band is the fact that they've released three self titled records)
Thrice - The Alchemy Index: Volume III + IV Air and Earth
Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds - Dig!!! Lazarus Dig!!!
Conor Oberst - Conor Oberst
Cancer Bats - Hail Destroyer
Portishead - Third
Black Lungs - Send Flowers
Sigur Ros - Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust
of Montreal - Skeletal Camping
Genghis Tron - Board up The House

and then these, all of which I'm reluctant to include because although they were good, they were slightly disappointing by the artists previous standards:

Death Cab For Cutie - Narrow Stairs
Kings Of Leon - Only By The Night
The Mars Volta - The Bedlam In Goliath

Don't worry Bluey, i will pm once I've finished.

hmmm, half worked out list now.... a top five any of which could be an album of the year depending on my mood, next five that could be one in a slightly underwhelming year, another five certs and five more to pick from fifteen....
