Your first football match

Southampton vs Wolves at the Dell, 10th October 1970. It was three bob to get in (15p) and a programme was a shilling (5p). Saints scored in the first minute (Mick Channon - now more well-known as a racing trainer) and missed a penalty (Ron Davies - Welsh international who had been voted the best striker in Europe in 1968) after 10 mins, going on to lose 2-1. Despite this blip, it became the season they established themselves as intimidating at home, even to the stiffest opposition, a reputation that lasted well into the 1990s (remember Man U changing shirts at half time, and then getting hit for six the following season?)

I used to go to every home game, catching the 11.15 to secure a spot behind the goal, and later that season I was very clearly visible in a pic that was used both in the local Echo, and then in the next home fixture's programme.

I can't remember the year, probably 1978 or 1979 - it was Bristol City -v- Nottingham Forest at Ashton Gate, in the old First Division. It was terracing and I was very short (still am) and couldn't see very much.

Does other football count?

Roscommon Vs Offaly, friendly in my local town, soccer it would have been the local amateur side Ajax (I kid you not)

England U17s vs Wales U17s at Huish Park in Yeovil in I think 1991 or so. I can't remember who won but I do know that an unknown Welsh winger called Giggs was playing that day.

The ol London road...remember that fat bloke who used to start all the songs...nappy or something...weird going back there now, the Brittania looks gastro:rolleyes:
I don't think I went in more than once, to be honest. The Butchers (and before that the Black Boy) was my hangout.

West ham 3-3 Southampton 1994 in the prem around when i was first getting into football. I still remember it. Just found a report online about it just to make sure i got the score right, lol.

IIRC Saints were winning 3-2 and the ref took the two teams off the pitch for a while. After the restart West Ham equalised. Yeah?

West Ham v Port Vale in the FA Cup in 1985. We won 5-1 :D It was absolutely bloody freezing and I rememeber George Paris falling over a lot on the ice. Don't remember much else.

twas defo ipswitch...must have been earlier lived in Manc between 5 and 8 must have been between 83 and 86 forget how old I am:rolleyes: though spose it could have been a cup game??? will dig out the programme

Ah, it may have been 1985 then, cos 1984 we won 2-1 at Old Trafford and 86 got a 0-0 draw if I remember rightly. I remember Jesper Olsen very well, took over from Arthur Graham on the left forcing Norman Whiteside to be more of an attacking midfielder. Scored twice against Nottingham Forest on December 1985 as well........

I'm turning into an anorak.......
