Your first football match

A neighbour took me to Charlton v York City (I think) in about 1975. It was 3-2 but I can't remember who to. I do remember a player sliding on his arse across the red gravel just below the hoardings and thought: That has to hurt.

First game I went to was Chelsea - Arsenal at Stamford Bridge in about 75/76. No idea what the score was or who won only thing I remember is it all kicking off big time as the gooners tried to take the Shed. Running battles all over the streets after the game.

Ipswich vs Man Utd at Portman Road.

Great game, finished 3-2 to the Tractor Boys. I think though that Man Utd got some measure of revenge that year in the return fixture, by beating them 9-0.

I was at that one, in the north stand as usual! Two goals from Paul Mason if I remember rightly.

My first match? november 1976, Ipswich 7-0 West Brom. Been hooked ever since.

Man Utd Ipswitch Old trafford about 87/88 think we won 1-0 and have a feeling Olson scored though could be wrong on everything save the 2 teams...

1st away game was Utd v Oxford Utd....Fergies first game, got beat 2-0 who'd have thunk it:)

Can't have been Ipswich mate, we were in division 2 at the time......

Do your lot still do the Ayatollah jumping up and down head slapping thing? I went to watch Orient away there a few years back and I never thought that sort of thing could be intimidating buuuuuuut it was.

The first time that was performed at Rovers the Popular Side died laughing, we'd never seen anything so ridiculous.

First game - Rovers 3 Birmingham 3 at Twerton. Carl Saunders got two, John Taylor the other.

I was only 2 when Rover's moved out of eastville, first game for me was Rovers 2 Port Vale 0 at twerton in 1994. john taylor got one and justin skinner the other.

It was pretty mad and tribal when surrounded by only 300 or so fellow Orient fans

Burnley v Wimbledon, FA Cup 3rd Round 1977 (I think). Burnleys last season in Division 1, Wimbledons last as non-league. Wimbledobn won 1-0.

i think i remember so well cos i was in the tepid family enclosure... i'm sure if i'd been on the pop terrace i'd remember very little of my first match, or most subsequent matches

Might have been to see Bury or Rochdale before that, but the first one that sticks in my mind is Man Utd v Sheff Wednesday, circa 1971. Pretty meaningless game I think - Utd weren't about to win anything and Wednesday had already been relegated (I think). Utd went 2 up but it ended 2-2. Don't remember a single thing about the match other than the score.

First ever match was Charlton Athletic v Huddersfield Town in around 1974, 3-3 all draw.

Burnley v Wimbledon, FA Cup 3rd Round 1977 (I think). Burnleys last season in Division 1, Wimbledons last as non-league. Wimbledobn won 1-0.

You lucky bastard Mick Mahon scored for the Dons. The first time a non-league club had beaten a team from the top division.

Mahon scores at Burnley

My first Dons match was the 4th round reply against Leeds Utd played at Selhurst Park in front of 45,000. Leeds won 1-0 with a lucky goal deflected of Dave Bassett.

never realised that, it's history man!

If you have many more pics from the game, I might well be on one, you could actually lie on top of the bench (iyswim) during the game.

Arsenal v Aston Villa, sometime between 1978 and 1981.
I remember Jimmy Rimmer looking like a shambling wreck. And a man in a bobble hat singing on his own.

The ol London road...remember that fat bloke who used to start all the songs...nappy or something...weird going back there now, the Brittania looks gastro:rolleyes:

Fuck me, you're not one of them as well are ya?
