Blue cheese

especially Devon Blue. mmmmmm

though if i could only have one cheese for the rest of my life it would have to be cheddar

gotta be parmigiano reggiano. Not in a sandwich, nice aged cheddar for that, but nothing beats savouring a thin slice of parmesan. :)

Gorgonzola is brill.

But I have a new favourite which is good old-fashioned Cheddar. But no ordinary Cheddar this. Oh no, it's Isle of Bute from Sainsburys.

Well nice with Rough Oatcakes, or on its own for that matter.

If you like parmigiano reggiano you should try Pecorino Romano, it's similar but much nicer.

I couldn't choose one but my current favourites are:

Red Leicester
Cheddar
Feta
Pecorino Romano
Manchego
Buffalo Mozzarella
Halloumi
and I tried an Italian cheese the other day called Piccante which was lush.

Personally I prefer good, simple old cheddar, although I do have a soft spot for feta too.

See poll.

That is the first time I have seen 'genre' in a sense other than for entertainment. I like it.;)

guinnessdrinker knows what he is talking about.

I like semi-soft cheese best. Strong smelly feet cheeses like pont leveque and stinking bishop; the slightly less sharp semi-softs like comte and celtic promise, and the milder tasting but still bloody lovely ones like morbier and raclette.

Feta

Mozzarella

Ricotta :) None of which are on the bleedin poll
The poll has cottage cheese in it, therefore is hopeless & worthless.

RenegadeDog should be burned at the steak for such heresy.

In no particular order:

Mozzarella
Brie
Red Leicester
St Agur
Isle of Bute cheddar
Halloumi
Emmental
Cornish yarg
Chevre (the proper French stuff)

I think that's about it for now....

Why is it called cottage cheese though? Does anyone know?
Well I suppose if they'd called it "rancid knob cheese like vomit inducing dribbly crap grown in festering cesspits", the sales figures might have been a tad sluggish.

You know, I'd never thought about it like that before
