Well, you have to pay to get in cos it's privates members, (5er a time or 30 quid a month I think) you've met Duncan I'd hardly call him cool, anything but!

a couple of bits of central "london cool":

the princess louise pub on high holborn, amazing 20s decor and very cheap prices (it's a samuel smiths).

the wong kei chinese restaurant on wardour st, famously rude service ("fuk-u-wan?" used to be there greeting), very cheap prices and unlimited free jasmine tea. i would recomend the mixed veggie starter and the fried quai due for maximum nom.

it's winterval and i'm feeling genorous, have some hidden north london cool:

the oakdale arms on hermitage road N4, camra approved, all kinds of guest ales, friendly staff and regulars, occasionly they'll have mead behind the bar, stowford press cider 2.50 a pint, no posers whatsoever. possibly the best pub you've never heard of.
