Your biggest disappointment

William of Walworth said:
They were fairly shit at Brighton as well -- I think this may have been the same year, 1994.

Around then, except I thought 1995. I was gutted because I waited so long to see them - about 6 years.

I thought they didn't play for ages and IB took singing lessons because of all the bad reviews (one in the music press from me 8))

1995 could be right -- not sure.

I'd been waiting for that same while as well, and before the gig, trying to persuade myself that the newish second album was as good as the first.

What a deluded fool I was -- the rubbish gig soon set me right though .... :(

Seeing Pavement live. I was a big fan, but I went off them afterwards. There was no passion, just glib irony. I'd heard they were a bit hit and miss live (once apparently they played a whole gig with their backs to the audience) and they sure were rubbish when I went.

it pains me to say it, but the last pulp album "we love life"...

i adore pulp.

i really really tried with this album.

but it was sadly just rather dull.

:(

Stone Roses were responsible for one of the best gigs i went to as well as the most disappointing - despite the fact Ian McCulloch was standing next to me for most of it!!

in terms of disappointment - ie high expectations that are dashed, rather than a band you like having a bad night - Queens of the Stoneage were pretty shit. They just didn't rock, it was really middle of the road.

When did you see them? I saw them at Reading 2001 and thought they utterly rocked.

Having said that, I was standing there smoking about 8 pure grass bongs during the set, which may have helped.

Biggest disappointment for me -- Bob Dylan, Glasto 1998. He was truly dire -- scarcely audible, and completely incomprehensible.

Yeah I was there too. Iwas sooo disapointed i had been looking forward to seeing live for months!! Don't even think I lasted for 5 songs! Definitely my worst gig. Oasis aswell at the AECC no interaction at all. They just seemed bored to me. They only played for about 40 mins. whole load of wank.:(

seeing as they're probably the nearest there is to an official U75 band, i'll probably get lynched for this, but last time i saw the Pixies at Ally Pally i was a little dissapointed.

Whilst I suppose a certain amount of the blame can go to the venue, i saw the White Stripes a little while after at the same venue and they made it work so :(

Iggy pop will be doing better shows six months after his death than the likes of franz cunting ferdinand will ever be able to come up with.

I saw the pixies at a festival in switzerland earlier this year and they were fucking awesome.

Pixies for me as well. I seen them at the time in 87 and at brixton on the reunion schlep....love them on record but both times live underwhelmed. Just seemed to be going through the motions and on both occasions never even spoke to or acknowledged the crowd.

no i kind of agree, they were alright but not amazing.

The Distillers. We drove to Nottingham to see them and they played for one hour. One fucking hour. Apparently she had a sore throat, but wtf.
We saw them briefly at Download the other year. I thought she always had a sore throat. One of my farts erupting from under a duvet makes more noise that she does with a mic in hand.

Has anyone ever seen Bob Dylan do a good gig?
I saw him do half a good gig back in the early 90's at Hammersmith. When he was on stage on his own I thought he was terrific, but then when his backing band came on it was awful, just a bunch of old gits jamming together.

Not really - I'd say I've seen him do afew decent songs back.

Generally though - fucking dire - the worst was at the Fleah with Van Morrison.. Dear oh dear!

The Hammersmith gig mentioned above was probably one of the least worst times I've seen him.

I think I might end up going to see him on his next tour.

Everything I'd heard about Asian Dub Foundation sounded fantastic, bought the album after a mate recommended it very highly, thought it was shit.

...Im afraid he's on my list of past it old timers. I dont resent people like him playing on, but dont expect anything more than a shadow of former glory in order to avoid dissapointment.

he maybe past it but he did an incredible show. The fact that he was playing Solid Air at the Barbican just made it one of thhe most moving nights ever. Only at the end did i realise that he was in a wheelchair

he's still got it

Another vote for the Pixies by me, saw them at T in the Park and Meadowbank Stadium, both times been utterly bored by them on stage

The Alkaline Trio. I'd been listening to them for a few years and thinking they would sound amazing live but they were so crap. Tried to think that maybe it was the sound system but no, it was them. A friend had interviewed them for a magazine before the gig and said they were really stoned so I put it down to that and went to see them again.........
.........and they were just as shit the second time. Took about 3 years before I could listen to the albums again and forget how shit they were live.

Most people I talked to concurred they were rubbish at BD. I went off to endure the not much less dire (IMO) Julian Cope instead, so it was actually a bit of a relief for me to hear that KJ, who I'd also wanted to see, were even worse for most.

I really liked Killing Joke at Beautiful Days :p

I saw the Pixies headlining Reading years ago. They bored me so much that i went to see the Blue Aeroplanes instead, who turned out to be quite good live.
