Your Bass Playing God.

I thought Me'Shell NdegéOcello was just a vocalist, but then I've only ever heard her on Basement Jaxx stuff.
I couldn't comment because I wouldn't know Basement Jaxx if they jumped up and bit me on the bum...I know bass players who worship this woman and have seen her live whenever possible. She played at the Clapham Grand when my husband went to see her and the bastards just pulled the sound on her or lost power or something halfway through her set and everyone was mightily pissed off. She is a really good bass player, songwriter and vocalist. She may well have other strings to her bow that I know nothing of.

I agree with Stavros that Tom Jenkinson is pretty impressive. I'm not so into the jazzy side of his work, but he was very good live when I saw him.

Did people just think Mark King was the greatest bass player in the world just because he could whack the strings with his thumb?

To be honest I don't recall anyone ever claiming MK to be the best bassist in the world...that would surely signal bloody armageddon!

;) :D

Does he play the bass and do all the electronic shit all in the same song? Shiiiiit.

I saw him live twice in 1997. It's all true! Awesome - he lives at a completely alien pace to the rest of us mere mortals. Even makes Aphex look a tad sluggish TBH! :D

Jaco Pastorius, by a country mile. I recently met his niece at a bar. It was quite funny, she didn't have much idea of who he was, if you see what I mean. To her he was just crazy "Uncle Jaco," she thought of him as the family fuck-up. I suppose she'd only have been about 10 when he died.

A friend of mine was a bass player, and he worshipped Jaco.

He was the bass player's bass player. This girl was quite surprised at how awe-struck me and my mate were, she thought he'd been some bar-room musician playing for drinks or something.
