Your All Time Greatest Arms In The Air Pill Moment

One of my best pill moments didn't involve music at all - I was taking part in a mass battle (several thousand people) at an LRP event, dressed in armour and twatting people with a big sword whilst utterly wankered on 3 pills.

The rush I got when the first charge started was incredible, the noise of everyone shouting and the rumble of their feet running on the ground was like nothing else I'd ever heard, followed by the sheer intensity of slamming into a shield wall and trying to avoid getting hit....

As for music, either the first time I heard Medicine Man drop "The Prophet" at Havok in Manchester, or stood in a clearing in blazing sunshine around 4pm, after having been up since the previous day without stopping, somewhere in Wales at a Carry On Regardless party.

Turnmills.. back in the day when they did London Calling... the small room at the bottom of the stairs.. back when the pills worked, with my best friend...

Kings of Tomorrow 'Finally' playing and the bouncer by the fire exit door singing along with the song...

Was more dancing my arse off and grinning like an idiot than hands in the area, but anyway...

good times :D

:D I fell off too many podiums and down stairs :o

oh podiums.

:o them too.

the mad thing about that particular balcony fall was that i stepped forward - and apparently fell off it, standing up, totally straight backed. :D

all i remember is i landed on a group of blokes who were nice enough to post me back up where my friends were gaping with their hands over their mouths! it all happened so quickly, we just carried on dancing :D

i blame the smoke machines. you couldn't see a sodding thing in there.

Dunno really on the rave/dance music tip, I had some amazing times around 2000/2001 but it's hard to put my finger on just one. I did my first pill at Whirly, so it holds some very special memories for me, and I had a great time discovering techno courtesy of a Mr C Liberator at a Mindscapes party at the Drome just before it shut down.

My 2 best music/drugs experiences took place outside of sweatboxes though, and they rank pretty equally.
One was seeing Spem in Alium (40 part motet by Tallis) at a late night Prom at the Albet Hall on half a fresh Timothy Leary in the Summer of 2001. Truly transcendental. The other was singing Elgar's Give Unto The Lord (a fairly bombastic, if unmemorable piece) in a college chapel in Cambridge (I can't remenber which one) with a shit hot choir whilst ripped to the tits on a load of Methamphatamine. Summer 2002 that one I think. Much fun :D

i started reading this thread and thought 'hehe, old people' :D

best memory i've ever had on pills was probably knifehandchop playing the cooperage in 2004, everyone was going mental, and then he stopped the music for a second and everyone is looking at each other like 'wat?' and then he dropped 'snakecharmer'

Hehe - very similar thing happened to me in Garlands one night...was prancing all over several podiums shoved together, and got to the end of them still dancing. Fell off but was swung around by the arm by a fast-thinking bunch of lovely people sharing my podium space, and they swung me back onto it - just did a kind of arc over the tops of people's heads, landed back and carried on dancin :D:D

Spiritualized at reading 98/99 (maybe?) doing a big epic opening to ladies and gentlemen (we are floating in space.)
Basic shock and awe tactics, without the burning bodies, and collapseing buildings.
7000 punters staring on in silent bemusement.....til the drums came in.

oh yeah and some squat party in..........................

I've never had pills :hmm: However, the Tribal Gathering that Spandex mentioned had some extraordinary moments which I never quite got over, even having been straight as a die throughout. :D

I don't generally do pills, but my greatest choooon moments are probably from live shows

First, Underworld, Reading 1996 - dropping the mental bit from Cowgirl. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! I was almost speechless after their set. I don't know why it was so good, but it blew my mind.

Then Orbital, NYE 1998-99 (I think) when they went into 'Chime' at midnight. Naturally.

lab4 at return to the source NYE 00/01 :o

eta: but nowadays it's all about grown up arse shakin, none of this childish hands in the air bizzniss. :D

One year at Glastonbury (92/93/94 maybe), early morning after a night in what I only knew as 'the experimental sound field'. Since read it was Underworlds first gig but never verified. A fella was using the scaffolding as a drumkit and seriously lost it a few times throughout the night shouting at the crowd, really intense. In the morning they played 'We are Family' as the sun came up. I remember being completely among people I didn't know but absolutely buzzing my tits off knowing everyone was great.

That, and many times stood on stages at the PSV or the Hac while a random girl massaged my head with olbas oil/tiger balm.

Fuck I loved them days.

Orbital - snivilisation tour when they played in the round with all the equipment covered in strobes facing the crowd and first dropped the 'belinda carlisle moment' in Halcyon - awesome

House Of God, back room Dawn Penn - No, no, no - it was like the sun came out

plenty more I can't recall...........

About 1990-91, coming back from the toilets after coming up on my first ever E (Dove) and having a chunder, DJ puts on Where Love Lives and ENTIRE club sings along with hands in the air, okay so it was my first ever rush too, but that was hair standingly mental. I sang along and I'd never even hear the choon before...we was all like connected maan.

i dunno, pills have always worked more on me socialising than me dancing. Hands in the air is probs more like hands up some equally pilled up partners top in some teen club.

Ketamine on the other hand, has made some music just insanely different and wonderful. In fact the best techno i ever heard was couple of months ago at that queer party at the Buddhist squat (RIP). It may jut have been the K but it was fucking amazing. No idea whothe DJ was, should tacke them down.

So no, no pill moments.

Reading Fest about 6 years ago

Janes Addiction start playing 3 days just as it starts raining and I come up all at once!

fuck knows what my arms were doing but it was immense!

either Eat Static/System 7 at a Megadog around 92, or a Headcharge at the Arches a year or two later, probly when playing Access

I heard 'Access' (Tim and Misjah) for the first time.

This, but it was in Heaven, played by Mrs Wood and at the bit where it holds for a few seconds with that vocal and then starts to build again with that

WHOOMP - WHOOMP - WHOOMP

.... I thought I was going to cry. :D

Rovers v Rochdale about 4 years ago

It finished 0-0 but my god did I have fun after the half time refreshments livened it up no end

dunno.

hearing dillinja's "in the grind" at the end once blew me away in a fucking fantastic way but i'm not sure if that was the proximity to the speakers ratehr than the drugs.

being upstairs in the scaffolding under the arches at unsound once, rushing like mad, loads of white sheets hanging from the ceiling with blondie's "rapture" being played - all i could see was bright, white light with debbie harry's vocals encomapssing me... aces
