you just need to put up with it .

Maybe record him and just threaten him with playing it back to his family, friends, cops etc. That might be enough and you wouldn't have to go public (unless he calls your bluff) - my guess would be that he would take notice!:)

Four options:
  • Put up with it.
  • Leave island
  • Hide a camera and record him. Make copies and circulate it widely
  • Make copy and go through official channels.

Don't do this. This is a really bad idea. You would prolong the drama, and risk reciprocal threats.

Bollocks! Most people who act like this arsehole are cowards and will crumble at the first suggestion of a fight!!!! Get stuck in that's what I say - show him you won't take it lying down (so to speak!).

Yes. I'm recorded every day without consent in London.
Yeah, but that's because you roam the streets mugging old ladies, 'jacking cars and urinating in public every day. :p

how do you react to this man when he starts with his threats? what do you do/say? are you assertive with him at all? just trying to work out why he keeps on with this behaviour - not at all saying you're to blame, just maybe if you were a bit more assertive with him he'd fuck off?

when it first started i used to laugh it off , that got me nowhere . iv tried telling him he s a disgusting old man and i would tell his wife and family . iv tried ignoring him . iv threatned him with the police and my boss.
im not a shy wallflower by any means i wouldnt take this shit off anyone (normally).

Another vote for recording him here.

And keep a large broom handle handy.

E2a- are you frightened? You seem to be finding lots of reasons not to do anything.

but i'll be fucked if im going to lie down and let this fuckpig bastard walk all over me and abuse me like this !

do they have the plod up there or is it just a cornish thing?

What sort of stupid cuntish comment is that? ALL rural and isolated areas of the British Isles are woefully under policed. Often with idiots for Chief Constables like the one in Norfolk and the one in North Wales.

you're boss has a care of duty to you and as you have already made complaints he should act on it, you should be his main concern and he should ban the old bugger from the shop.

why should you have to take things into your own hands, get your boss to deal with him

my sentiments exactly space girl!!!:)
my boss is a she and each time i tell her she does nowt? she was away for a couple of days so missed the latest installment , so i wrote it in her diary so she couldnt miss it? tommorrow i will ask if wot she s going to do about it?
im not putting up with this crap anymore!

too right, tell her that she has to stop him or you will make a complaint to the police and they certainly will want to know why she has not protected you

all she has to do is ban him, if she won't then she cares more for him and/or his trade than she does you!

Coincidentally I worked in the only shop an a small Hebridean island when I was sixteen (and, bizarrely, I was chatted up by a now-very-famous MP. That's entirely apropos of nothing). I'm curious to know whether it's the same island with the same shop!

Things work differently in the Western Isles. It's not as simple as "tell a copper" because the copper is almost certainly either related to the person you're being harrassed by or maybe enjoys a pint at the bar with him. Or his friends. Or his family. And gossip travels faster than wildfire. And if people like him, they may take his side (I've seen this first hand. It's not pleasant.)

This, however, is unacceptable. You shouldn't have to do this but I suggest you very firmly stand your ground. Use whatever comes to hand if necessary. Do not smile. Do not even acknowledge him if you don't want. And good luck!

I was sure I'd already posted this, but it's nowhere to be found....

If your boss does nothing, you have a solid case for quitting and filing for constructive dismissal. Document evidence first - not just the sleazebag's behaviour, but also your reporting of it to your boss, their response, and all previous history.

I realise that would leave you without an income in the meantime, so it might be an idea to consider other options for making some dolla.

Do you go over to the mainland much? Find a citizens advice bureau - they vary in qulaity massively, but this is well within their remit.

Sorry to hear about this - remember I am on the adjacent isle - albeit 60 odd miles away.

I was wondering does the shop not have CCTV, even on Skye they have that now. Is your mum around ? Can you talk to her?

I feel the best route is to get a few biggish blokes to 'have a word' -usually I object to this but sometimes it's the only way. There MUST be someone you can talk to about this.
