You first book

I believe the first real book I read was a collection of tales by Gianni Rodari (anyone Italian here?) in which I had to choose the final. It was funny, wicked and sometimes sad, like the story in which the magician Merlin travels around the world trying to help people but discovering that progress (television, electricity, cars) has taken the rule of magic...
that sounds fantastic- remember the title? :)

you know, i rally can't remember. i was a very early reader, i could read books for seven year olds when i was four - i was reading before i could speak properly! when i was young i used to absorb books, i'd read almost anything.

The Italian title of Rodari's book is TANTE STORIE PER GIOCARE.
I guess in English it should be something like MANY STORIES TO PLAY (WITH).

Leica where are you from? Spain? :)

the first proper book i remember reading was 'the magician's nephew' when i was about 6. i also read stephen king books far too young- i read 'the stand' when i was about 9 i think. i didn't understand much of it and it scared me shitless, i think i was trying to impress my dad.

Animal Farm when I was seven. It was quite possibly a little early; the moral of the story was quite clear - don't trust pigs.

(And try not to get drunk if you're a farmer)

no idea, i was a really early reader. the earliest book i still own is Charlie & The Chocolate Factory, given to me by my first girlfriend for my 6th birthday.

Rhian Mummery, where are you now?

I am now teaching in an infant school in Hampshire. I have been married to Steve for 8 years and have 2 lovely sons, Thomas aged 2, and Mark aged 3 weeks. I would love to hear from anyone who remembers me.

I would most definetely have been something by Monteiro Lobato, around the age of 8 or 9. I used to have all his books in hard back (well, my mum did and she gave them to me) and now they cost an absolute fortune to buy...

He wrote some incredible children's books, wish I could get hold of them... (they haven't been translated to English - and were written in Portuguese)
