fujiyama's fish isn't that fresh either! damn chinese chefs pretending to be japanese.

and i once had sushi from ichiban and the friggin' rice was still warm!!!

Yo Sushi has crap rice. Eurgh!
Favourite is Kulu Kulu. Itsu is ok for a change. But for me it's Kulu Kulu.

crap.

I've never been so it's a complete gut feeling judgement.

Never ever tickled my fancy - the samey marketed chain restaurant does not float my boat.

It is meant to be warm though (or let's say: temperate), isn't it?

room temp max, but not actually warm (for one thing, sushi rice should be pressed under blocks for so long that it couldn't possibly stay warm until served, and you certainly don't reheat it  )

the rice needs to be cold to stick together.
warm rice heats up the raw fish. makes it yucky.

yeah you like the japanese centre. remember to bow at the fella behind the counter. he's a happy chappy. there's a korean/japanese food store downstairs too. and opposite, a korean restaurant.

Me and a mate sometimes go for hungover Yo Sushi Fridays but we usually end up eating all the meat and deep fried stuff. Yo Sushi is completely over priced but I do like the one of Oxford St for the booths and enjoy the conveyor belt dining thang. It is v westernised too but i dont see the prob with that if you accept your not really getting anything authentic just something quite tasty.

Best proper Japanese I used to go to is Feng Sushi in London Bridge (and I think there are a couple in North London too). Really good, really fresh and good value for money. MMMMMM!!!

They're not bad, but neither are they very good and they're far too expensive for that quality of sushi. If I wanted middling sushi at best, I'd go to Gili Gulu for the all you can eat deal.

That is bollocks. It's best moulded by hand and should stick firmly straight away without being held in blocks FFS. That's what makes tough hard over compacted supermarket rice.

No it does not. You form the rice when warm and leave until room temp where it binds better and is cool enough to add the sashimi.

Warm rice will stick I promice, the wife cooks it all the time etc. I do of course realise cold rice sicks better but for best results form whem warm and leave to firm.

i have a soft spot for you sushi - it held me gently by the hand and introduced me to the wonderful world of japanese food in a safe way. It is also available in many locations which are untroubled by decent japanese restaurants, so i shall never say never.

When I stayed with a friend of the Lower East Side of NY, however, many years ago, and she dialed out for cheap sushi, it was delivered in a trice, and so much more delicious than anything in Yo sushi - especially a particularly wonderful eelskin ngiri - that i haven't really bothered with them since.

Much better than supermarket sushi, though.

Oh FFS. Now I'm going to have to get sushi for dinner. AGAIN.

Supermarket sushi is shit. Yo Sushi is also shit. The sushi I'm about to get is not fantastic but its ok.

yes the marks one does seam to remarkably bad ..

the rice is somewhat dry and hard ... although the type of rice isn't bad (Koshihikari)

suprisingly i find myself quite likeing sainsburys stuff (notably the nigirizushi)

mind you as i havn't had proper fresh autentic sushi chef sushi i can't really make a comparison as it could just be me liking an infirior product (like my love of crap sausages)

i haven't been back in years because i gave up on sushi in london, but from my experience with yo, apart from the occasional odd piece of tuna or salmon, most of their sushi was cooked or smoked fish or shellfish. haven't been in ages, though.

ikkyu on tottenham court road is good, i think they do a £7 set lunch (although i might be wrong about the price). it's a little smoky, though.

cheers for that!
i shall try.

Crap.

Went to the one in leeds and everthing I had was very very greasy, and I had to wait 30 min for my tofu soup. Spent about £15 on my lunch too

I do quite like m&s veggie sushi tho *hangs head in shame*
