Yet another moronic 'I Was A Football Hooligan' book

yeah i mean who needs these bloody ww2 verterans writting books either...

I appreciate you loath them for what they have done to the game, to your club, and how that has affected the perception of people outside of the UK.

I accept that these twats are profiting from their actions.

But why give them more oxygen of publicity, here?

hopefully the sales will never be very good. and they'll die soon enough...

The Cardiff Soul Crew book had two stories, endlessly repeated:

1. We went there and gave their boys a good kicking in a totally even fight and, fair play, they fought well and respected our boys.
2. We were hopeless outnumbered and, fair play, we gave a good account of ourselves but got battered. But we'll kick shit out of them next time in an even fight.

Etc etc etc ad nauseum

sounds great. Where can I buy it ?

Im sure whilst ripped the other night on freeview telly I saw soem, thing new - Football firms international ? - interviwes with European hooligans ?

They went to Beograd to meet Partizan/ red star hooligans - these are the same lot who went to war a or decade ago - awful human beings

mesmerising but utterly distasteful chap telly - anyone else seen it ?

I am apalled that someone bought this crap

Hmmm sounds suspiciously like a pitch for a new BBC3 series... these and drug stories have become the modern equivalent of war stories, just without the tanks...

I don't imagine any ex-hoolies from Wycombe Wanderers or Torquay United have released any books yet, but it can only be a matter of time.

I knew a couple of blokes who claimed to be from Wycombes firm . Don't know what the fuck they called themselves but they were clueless fuckwits

You think the sales of the Swansea hoolie book will rise after a mention here?!!!

'Scuse being serious for a minute, but didn't those 'football hooligans' cause a lot of havoc, not to mention, injuries?

Hoolie books are generally crap but they're not as bad as those ghostwritten hard man/gangster books eg anything by Dave Courtney.

Just when you thought they couldn't possibly be any more knucklehead 40-something fuckwits left to bore us shitless with dull, wildly exaggerated celebrations of their brainless hooligan past, up pops this latest piece of shit:
I've (skim) read about five of these books over the years (all but one borrowed, not bought) and they're all shit.

How many more pathetic old men glorifying the violence of their moronic past can there be left?

The hooligan scene?

And here I was convinced that there was no such thing...:D

Desperate stuff, Johnny.

I've already told you that there are still some hooligans in British football but - unlike your clueless, tabloid-spawned, ignorant claims - they only make up a near microscopic percentage of football crowds.

On your woeful performance so far, I strongly suggest you stay out of all further football threads and stick to minority sports like Canadian ice hockey.

If your words were spoken, I'd close my eyes, and it would be like listening to my mother/teacher/truancy officer/judge.:)

Btw, Beckham's in Vancouver playing a game this week.

Give it up with the cheap personal shots, Johnny.

You've made a right dick of yourself here and tawdry insults are going to alter that.

I made a lighthearted joke on this thread, and you come back with some heavyhanded scolding.

A sense of humour is a wonderful thing, and well worth cultivating.

Perhaps soccer is much too serious a business ever to be trifled with.
Correct.

Here's a famous quote that sums it up for a lot of people. You'll never have heard of it before, but you can Google it and pretend you had if you like.
'Some people believe football is a matter of life and death.
I'm very disappointed with that attitude.
I can assure you it is much, much more important than that.'
And as DrRD has already told you: it's football, not 'soccer'.

I've never heard it, and wouldn't want to pretend that I had. I'm not up on my soccer philosophical quotes.

In any event, if some people actually do think that way, then it isn't a far stretch to imagine them beating the tar out of some other team's fans.

I can understand where that impulse comes from, and why it's so prevalent, especially in the third world.

When your life is misery, and the only brief escape you have is watching a bunch of men [I confess I don't recall the exact number on the field during a game is it five per team?] kick a ball around, then you tend to take the matter quite seriously.

Our sports did not develop in a culture of want, so we tend not to attach as much emotional significance to watching a bunch of highly paid men engaging in one spectacle or another.

Some unemotional fun on the ice

Yeah, for the most part - but not always - we're smart enough to leave the fighting to the guys getting paid to do it.
Ah, that's nice. Does the crowd cheer louder when there's blood being spilt by the brawlers?
