Yesterdays Love Music Hate Racism demo

ive just turned up on redwatch and was really chuffed, its one of the most flattering pics of me ive seen in ages and makes me look at least 5 years youngers
(((redwatch)))
There's ruddy hundreds of entirely random photos up there now - so much so that it's become more of a handy resource for protest photos than anything else.

It was a pretty miserable event.

Its bad as I remember the buzz that anti racism events and activity used to have.

All sorts of people used to be involved from war vets who saw the effects of Nazi rule in Europe through to bright eyed students and mixed race families making a stand against the dogshit through the door brigades.

Now look what it has been reduced to. A bunch of SWP members dragooned to attend.

Its pitiful it really is. Time for a rethink about how the fash are to be tackled.

They can now ONLY be tackled by tackling the economic cuases of racism. It's that simple: until issues of poverty and resource-scarcity are dealt with, the far right will continue to grow unabated. No amount of daft festys and rallies will have any effect other than to shore up support for the far-rigth amongst people who feel abandoned by the entire political process - and that includes the far-left.

Yup.

Couldn't agree more there.

The problem is ignoring this problem and writing all the white working class off as 'fash' as the SWP and others have done has encouraged people to support the bnp.

There are going to have to be hard choices made. Previously sacrosanct policies such as a totally needs based housing policy are gonig to have be abandoned or reformed so that those who are born here whatever theri religion or race are prioritised for housing. This is the way of things in other EU countries such as the Nederlands.

We cannot hope to build enough social housing in enough time to beat the fash. By the time homes are built for all we may have fash in significant numbers in the House of Commons.

The far left needs to abandon the mistaken and misguided policy of No Borders the existence and promotion of this policy by high profile Left groiups is another thng that is encouraging the bnp and further entrenching the view that the left don't care about the white working classes.

We need to get people working and get people housed. That is the way to kill off the fash not by piss poor demos or screaming 'racist' every time someone challenges you.

Vote in the Tories.

Might be the way. They'v changed a lot since the Thatcher years.

*pisses self laughing*

"those who don't learn the lessons of history... etc etc"

wonders how the feck folk really believe that voting for politicians who will further speed up the neo-libral agenda and use exactly the same attempts to divide as NewNeoLiberal Labour is supposed to cut across the growth of the BNP???!!!

exactly i would add to that there needs to be visible working class leaders or more of a working class leadership for any bridging affect to work as at the moment its all about the tansys

So what do you suggest?

A working class leadersdhip grafted onto a middle class movement is worthless. The answer is outside of such movements. Whilst we're talking ideal 'needs' various existing movements based on direct w/c needs need to talk to each other. Not another manifesto. Not another party. Not another 'pole of attraction.'. The groups and orgnaisations thrown up in the attempt to meet their own needs by the w/c themselves.

So what is a REALISTIC alternative in your view?
