Yes Yes!! Its Boris

It's not only fascists you should have such an aversion for. There are other bastards who deserve your approbation as much, if not more.

That's possibly true, but I cannot and will not sit in the same room as Barnbrook. If I am asked to do so, in any context, I will refuse, and will leave the room.

I couldn't live with myself if I did anything else. If I end up back on benefits again, then so be it.

But doesn't approbation mean approval?

It's that attitude that results in Muslims refusing to shake the hand of a woman.

BTW. You are right. I meant some other word meaning revulsion.

It possibly is, but it's a really strong feeling for me, and goes deep into my psyche and my whole reason for being a trade unionist. I am sure I have "sold out" lots in the years that I have been a full time official rather than an activist, but there are some things that are not for sale, and dealing with fascists is one of those things.

guineveretoo's stance does seem a bit extreme to me but i hate fash with a burning passion and to be quite honest i don't know how i'd react if placed in a similar situation, i've never had to work with fash...i admire the fact that she's being honest about what, lets face it, many people would see as "an overrreaction" ...

...even on here.

yep, and all she gets is some snotty comment for an understandable position

Ultimately this is Gunevere's decision, and everyone else's opinion is worthless. My worthless opinion is how much I admire the underlying sentiment.

Certainty is something that only the doubtful can indulge in.

I am still not sure in what way it is a "self aggrandisement", but perhaps that was used as carelessly as the word "approbation "?

Sorry if it seems like an over-reaction. It was certainly an outburst, but I am genuine. I am now worried that I may have to disobey a management instruction to sit down with a fascist.

no guin, it's cool :) like i said, it seems a bit extreme but i feel physically sick when i think about things like the bnp, and i've never had to work with one, or be in close proximity to one, so i can't really judge your reactions ...

Yet you seem to suggest that you would sit near a non-fascist Islamist who regards you as less than human. Seems odd to me.

Juts be true to yourself, and be clear that you're following your own integrity rather than a set of expectations.

So far (apart from one occasion when I was on polling duty a few years ago in Cambridge, and it was quite clear that the guy stood no chance of winning, and anyway, I was only on polling duty for one day, and he was only complaining about the tellers and he was not the only person complaining), I have never worked with a known fascist either, because I have always been able to refuse to do so before.

But that was before there was a London Assembly member who was a fascist!
