OK, so you're anti-Ken because he once hugged someone who's homophobic. In this, you ignore that Boris voted against the repeal of section 28 and against gay marriage, comparing gay marriage to bestiality. Yet somehow Boris is not the one you decry as homophobic.

You despise Ken for being out of touch with ordinary Londoners. Boris is an old Etonian who's about as much like the average Londoner as the Queen is, except that at least she actually lives here most of the time.

You say that Ken is New Labour, and you hate him for that. Yet Ken's policies and stances are far less like Labour than Boris's are.

You also say that, being in Labour, you hate Ken because Labour took us to war. Yet Ken has always been anti-war, and Boris voted for it.

You despise Ken for corruption. Except that no corruption was ever proven, and Boris doesn't even bother to declare his interests as he's supposed to.

You claim that Boris will be more likely to fight against the government. Yet this is something that Ken Livinstone does all the time, while Boris never uses his position to influence anything other than his own popularity.


So, for all the reasons you claim to dislike Ken and like Boris, you've actually got it the wrong way round.

I must agree on that point ken was a thorne in blairs side but he seemed to take the nu labour shilling so i could not support him anymore.but boris is a buffoon it's hard to see anything constuctive coming from him

Perhaps, although with soaring housing costs and gentrification the average Londoner is becoming more like Boris, he's probably an aspirational a figure for many.

And if that wasn't frightening enough, a lot of nu Labour support is very similar to Boris, take someone like Toynbee - similar mix of politics and journalism, second home abroad, sprogs in private education.

Ken remains old school Labour of course, and as such is a bloody rarity, but old school Labour along with that part of our society it supports have been shafted so often and for so long they're almost shadows. I'm not happy to say it, but Ken's demise is almost the headstone on the grave of the tenable left.

I cannot and will not work with the BNP.

If I am required to do so as part of my job, I will face disciplinary action or resign rather than having to do so.

I remember when the fascists won a seat in Tower Hamlets in the early 90s, I didn't even live in London, but people came in droves from all over the country, to a rally to work to oust the bastard. There is no way I will sit in the same room as a known fascist.

If that means I lose my job, then so be it.
