Xenophobia and racism versus free speech

So in a democratic society, when faced with nasty evil shit, what's the best thing to do?

My gut feel is that censoring xenophobic parties is anti-democratic and free speech,?

free speech is free speech if you aren't actually breaking the law by inmstigating violence then you have the right - as Long as the BNP stay within the law then they should be allowed to say what they please -anyone who uses violence to stop them should be locked up.Demonstrate,give counter arguments as you like .
Ditto al Mugahiroun and their other loony tune islamists -as long as they dont instigate violence they can do as they wish

It's not my habit to do so, and to be honest, I think that there are very few actual racists posting on these boards. There are people one might wonder about, but even then, it's my habit to give them the benefit of the doubt.

It's also my habit to go with my gut feelings about people, and after reading this fellow's postings, that's the impression I get. It may well be wrong, I'll probably never know, but to me, his posts scream it out.

One wonders how many things you are hiding beneath that polite exterior of yours. Thai people are rarely black although there are a few who are half American from the Vietnam war who could be described as such.Thai skin colour ranges from very pale (especially chinese Thais) to Dark Brown with every shade in between. Thai society is extremely racist and white skins are prized and dark skins despised. Skin lighteners are big sellers.

Thai people are ,to my knowledge (please correct me if wrong Fela)very raely called Gary. Thai people are generally called Somchai,Srimazee,sumchat or if you are very lucky Tittiporn they also have nicknames like Nor,lek,A,Nok or Som.
I hope that is helpfull to you for your essay on why all Europeans are closet Fascist and when Yanks are the superior race.

But i think you're wrong to say that their society is 'extremely racist'. I know why you are saying that, but it really isn't that simple over here. And whatever racism exists with them it never manifests itself in violence unlike in anglo and european countries. The worst i may suffer is knowing that someone might be talking about me in a less than nice manner.

If only that could be said about other countries. In fact i'd say the majority of thais are extremely welcoming of the white man, only less so for black men due to their fears about them.

But, tell them how to do things from a western perspective, and that their way is no good, and their backs are up. That'd be the same anywhere though i'd guess.

Fela -you misunderstand - or I obscurate - The racism that is prevelant in Thai society is among themselves - Chinese Thais at one end and their attitide towards Isaan people or Thais with Dark skins -its the intra Thai skin colour thing.- Unlike you I am just temporary -I'm a Tourist worker come in stay 3 years go away -its not my job to influence culture -just build a power Station and go same as in Saudi or Dubai . Imagine you were sent to fix someones plumbing - you wouldn't need to tell them to redecorate their living room or treat their eldest daughter differently -you would just turn up ,do the job and go -same here for me -the job just lasts longer-it's their country - I can like it or leave it - next year -ill leave.
