XBox360

Our 360 will no longer recognise the C&C3 disk, even though there isn't a scratch in sight.

Is this the beginning of it going wrong?

Maybe. I've read that games not being recognised or corrupting in game, are the first signs of it breaking down. I can't speak from experience with that as though my machine died, it just packed up displaying anything on screen and didn't do any of the usual indicators.

Even though it has its (very) obvious faults, it's probably one of my most enjoyed consoles due to the games that it has out and/or coming out.

I'm just waiting for Overlord to be delivered. :D I used to be a big Nintendo fan, but I'm just not sold on the Wii yet. 360 is aces though. It's got a good mix of games. I'm even going to go live with it.

I'm very tempted by the 360, it's maturing well, the online content is there, it's games are getting better and there's a few killer apps on the way.

The only thing holding me back (apart from er money!) is the news of the elite on the horizon, would rather wait and get the best version of the box possible than buy now and regret later...

Smiles all the way with the other two as well really. Apart from fucking exclusive deals etc that force me to buy another bloody console!!

:D

I'm really bored of my 360 and I'd think twice about buying one.

If you had an Xbox, then it's just the SAME GAMES in hi-def.

Personally, I am extremely bored with the Halo, Forza, PGR and other old Microsoft franchises.

Smiles for bluray, but not so much for gaming content for the ps3, I've heard?

Gears of War, Mass Effect, Bioshock, Overlord, Project Sylpheed, etc.. they're not MS franchises.. in fact, I reckon the original content is pretty impressive.

Plenty on the way Chris, you gotta remember it takes a while for AAA titles to actually hit. Xbox has had a head start remember ;)

Not into Gears yet.. picked up Rainbox 6: Vegas again.. gotta be the best (single-player) game I've ever played.

It could have been the best multi player game ever except they didn't put enough effort into the map design. The single player game dictated the maps. As a result many maps are completely unbalanced or the areas too big and/or mazelike to find the enemy. The result of this is that for every mode 80% of players will be on the same map and many of the maps will have no players on them at all.

I get the feeling they hardly bothered to test map balance at all.

Perhaps I've been spoilt by the orginal Day of Defeat where the majority of maps were finely balanced and only a couple of the maps were very long.

Aye, playing Rainbow 6 too (PS3) is pretty good but agree with some of Marius points about the multiplayer game.

I am surprised our son's 360 hasn't blown up, he's been on it since December on some WW2 game, he's playing it online. Keeps getting told off for "camping" whatever that it, somethng to do with killing the enemy.
He's in the top 200 in the world for kills........that means absolutley zero to me.
I don't like this wireless headset he wears all the time to talk to people, not sure it's safe.
It's just a load of incoherant mumbling to a bunch of weirdo geeks.

Apparently, standing the 360 on its edge, rather than flat, keeps it cooler and less likely to break down.

I was told not to keep it on it's edge, in case it starts scratching discs.. :D

I reckon if you've got a shoddy one, it'll have broken already...

Apparently, standing the 360 on its edge, rather than flat, is what puts fookin' big grooves in your disks :(

I think the disc scratching issue has been narrowed down to the particular drives used. I *think* the problem is with the Samsung drives that were used. and it's been pretty much solved with them swapping to Hitachi (it might actually be the other way around, but I can't be arsed to do any searching as I'm about to make lunch :D )

As for vertical/horizontal, as long as you don't move it from position to position with it on and a disc inside, then it's all personal taste.

Only 20 days to Bioshock!! :D:cool:

got myself a Prem 360 and crackdown for £200 at cash converters last week :)

then swapped some games and got gears of war , pgr3 ,dead rising , and the darkness , are of them are wikkid but the darkness is my favourite so far , and i dont even like playing fps on consoles.

Plugged into a 22'tft vfia vga it all looks excellent , im very impressed by it so far:)

Word of advice re: dead rising. Unless you want the game to be Blood pressure rising, don't attempt to resuce anyone. They all deserve to die because they are all humngously stupid.

Been playing The Darkness.

Sadly its not about being a camp rock band but killing mafia goons with supernatural powers. Nevertheless I'm quite enjoying it although I have to say the summoning demons part of the game has so far proved to be pretty pointless as they are pathetic.

Actually, just got my copy through today (yay for Play-Asia. £22 brand new makes me happy) and I'm finding it quite enjoyable. So far, the little Beserkers have done nothing but make me giggle with their wisecracks, but it's a visually impressive game and its' got a decent amount of gore, which is always a bonus ;)

Couple of weeks and it's Bioshock, then Mass Effect, Ace Combat 6, Assassin's Creed and Halo 3 Oct/Nov time

the future is looking good , im glad the darkness has changed my mind about FPS' on consoles , and i like the twist about 3/ 4 hours in , and am well looking forward to bioshock

Completed the Darkness. Oops I overplayed it and completed it in quick smart time.

There are certain locations (with multiple targets) where using the demons can come in quite handy, if only to draw fire off you.

I need my internet installed now to see if its worth keeping for the multiplayer game or time to trade straight back to the shop.

I would have done it again on hard for the achievment but some of the cut scenes are way too long and can't be skipped. Can't bring myself to face them again. Plus the church shootout is hard enough on medium. Dread to think what that would be like on hard.

another bit of advice for dead rising . After you kill the clown take a photo of his body ( before you pick up the chainsaw ) then it wioll re-spawn over and aover again  It will also work with 3 books to make it a fucking well hard weapon :D

Also the pyschopaths in the truck are impossible without a gun.

and don't count for the killing psychopaths achievement.

Great idea for a game; too fucking frustrating though.

I want to get mine on the net but due to it's location in my living room I'm not running a cable out from my checkpoint which is hidden in a cuboard the other side of the flat. Also £80 is ALOT to pay for a wireless adapter. Does it have to be the Xbox branded one or are there cheaper alternatives?
Has anyone used one successfully and can they support WPA2 PSK?

Oh and I thought gears of war was shite. I can't even complete the training.
