Legendarily...it's on Friends Reunited somewhere... I am still cited as the reason why the common rooms of my old school is not allowed to have musical apparatus in'em ...when ever any kids ask they are pointed towards a framed version of MY confiscated copy of Oh Bondage Up yours in the deputy heads office...
X-Ray Spex were BRILLIANT!! without doubt one of the best bands from then.
I used to have a promo poster for the album up on my wall when i was a kid. The lady in the record shop let me have it after the LP had been out for a while. Them all in test-tubes. Wish I still had it. I even had the poster before i had the album, and that was one of the first records i ever bought. Gonna whack it on as soon as I get home.
Does anyone remember the Arena documentary that was on TV about them in 78 or 79? I remember it was a week or two before the one on Sham....
I also remember - "as a treat" being allowed to stay up late , on a school-nite, to watch them when they performed on the Old Grey Whistle Test. I must have been 8 or 9. My old dear thought they were great and kept singing "warrior in Woolworths" for ages afterwards which was highly embarassing when i had mates round.
Fuck , yea!! I'd forgotten about that!! I'm up for going too. Went to see them with 'Polly Filla' singing when they reformed in the nineties in Edinburgh. Poor girl, you couldn't help but feel sorry for her squawking away , but she was ver much a 'poor man's Poly Styrene.
You were 8 or 9, probably watching roland rat after school too so don't mind me if I don't take you too seriously. You'll be telling me next Sham 69 were good
