"Wuthering Heights" the gloriously bonkers video

It's hard to imagine just how different this song was when it came out - or how weird Kate Bush appeared to most folks - but I loved it (even though I was a full on punk rocker by then).
Written by Bush when she was just 18, the song's lyrics are based on the story of the novel of the same name. Kate Bush was inspired to write the song by the last ten minutes of the 1970 film version of Wuthering Heights.[1] She then read the book and discovered that she shares her birthday (July 30) with Emily Brontë. Bush reportedly wrote the song, for her album The Kick Inside, within the space of just a few hours late at night, looking to the moon through her open bedroom window for inspiration.

Here's Kate waving her arms around in a field somewhere

Altogether now: "Heathcliff, it’s meee, Cath-eeey, come home now” :D

When I was a kid my Gran would see Kate Bush on Top Of The Pops and be convinced she was a mad witch come to corrupt the kids with her weird mental ways.

I concurred sagely but I was secretly a bit of a fan.

When I saw her on TOTP performing that song, I was totally blown away. It totally captures the essence of the book. My dad bought The Kick Inside and I never stopped playing it - don't think he ever saw it again! (I still have it). I remember one very cold December day cycling miles to the nearest record shop to buy 'December will be magic again'.

The first time I took acid, me and a good mate spent a very pleasureable couple of hours watching the video for the Whole Story. Great video for that. :)

kate bush rocks

i love the video to 'running up that hill'. "tell me we both matter, dont we?" :)
