And the same thing happened with Jamaican and other Caribbean blacks who emigrated to New York, basically penniless. They were stuck at the bottom, then began to thrive like most immigrant groups do.

The difference between those Caribbean blacks, and your homegrown blacks, is that the Caribbean blacks and their ancestors hadn't been ground into the dirt as slaves for about four hundred years by you and yours. Something like that tends to have an effect on self esteem, ambition, etc.

The british ended it in 1805. You americans kept it around till 1865, after that war you fought, partly over that issue.
