yeah, well i think some people on these boards have a tendency to be prejudiced against certain sections of society.... not black people, or gay people, or people that live in council houses....

oh no, we're prejudiced against white middle class straight people that wear a suit and commute to the city

its still prejudice though, and just as nasty as any other sort.

You're equating success with making money

there are many types of succes, making money is just one of them.

i never said that anyone else wasnt succesful, just that i wouldnt be apologising for my own lifestyle.

I really don't want to get into a big row with you about this, I'd just like you to review your posts and try and understand why you might have pissed people off.

Being really defensive isn't very helpful - to you or anyone else.

You've asked for advice and people's perspectives on this thread. Writing things like 'I don't buy the council house sob story' isn't really going to endear you to people after they've spent time and energy giving you that advice, nor is boasting (and yes it is boasting) about how much tax you pay - probably more than a lot of people on these boards earn.

A little more humility - and, dare I say it, graciousness - wouldn't go amiss

Well, you didn't come over very well, gracious...choose your words more carefully lest you come over as someone LJ wouldn't miss.
It's harder to be pleasant via the typed word as opposed to the spoken word because of the lack of visual and aural clues.

i appreciate that i have said things on this thread that are inflammatory, and that certain people don't like. but reviewing it, i would like to point out that this is the comment that started the whole thing getting personal:

I live nearby and know that the area desperately needs people who want to make a killing on the property market and then fuck off.

absolutely uncalled for attack on me. yes ive taken offence to it, and yes ive defended myself, but some of the nasty things that have been said to/about me and people like me are a. what made this whole thing come up, and b. worse than anything ive said.

thanks to trashpony and mrs magpie for trying to smooth things over, but im extremely annoyed at the harsh treatment ive received on this thread, simply because i identified myself as a young professional.

nor is boasting (and yes it is boasting) about how much tax you pay

on this, i take your point. i wrote it in a p1ssed of frame of mind, not meaning to boast - i contribute to society and honestly dont resent it - im glad that there is housing provided for people that really need it.

yeah, i worked hard, i saved, then i scrimped and bunked the train and lived at my mums while i got my degree. then i worked 50-60 hour weeks for 2 years, and now i finally got a promotion that means i can afford to buy a place of my own.

Thatcher's spawn spreads out into the world.

worth popping the odd bottle of champers for if you ask me... if im reaping the benefits of anything its my own hard work...

Who gives a flying fuck that you are successful - other than you, ya selfish cow?
I mean, seriously.

and i dont buy the council house sob story either - i contribute my fair share of tax whilst using very few government services. its people like me that keep unfortunate souls that need it in council housing in the first place....

What a caring and understanding person you are. You don't really contribute to society - you just pay the tax you are legally obliged to and don't think it makes that much difference you arrogant tool.
My nan was one of those 'unfortunate souls' that required a council house her whole life because she chose to be a care worker (a mental health nurse). Good job you're about to make society a better place eh?

i'd let go of that bitterness if i was you - it wont get you anywhere in life.

I'd let go of that pompous and wanky attitude - it makes you look like arse.

So anyway,
I lived round there from '88 to early 2002. I miss it. :( Now my darn family have moved (round the corner from me) I don't even get to visit.

i'm deeply saddened by how this thread has turned out.

thanks to everyone who has offered an opinion on the area, apologies to anyone i've offended, and best of luck for everyone who has posted on this thread, especially for those who struggle to make ends meet and have to rely on the government.

I'm told that evertone's favourite slum landlord Mr Beaumont is in the process of selling up / has already. That should certainly make Loughborough Junction a better place.

Is he the bloke who along with his brother (I think?) years ago owned that big row of terraced houses in Coldharbour Lane on the left hand side as you head from Camberwell Green, just before the Harbour Road turning?

I've head bad stories ...

Yep, the very same. One of them carked it a couple of years back. Couldn't happen to a nicer bloke.

Some people I knew lived in those terraces - they are in a shocking state of disrepair.

i ticked yes - Loughborough Junction down towards Camberwell is great, and i've no real problem with the Brixton end either.. Where Pie Face used to live, just behind LJ, was lovely

You seem to be confusing Loughborough Junction with Coldharbour Lane!

It isn't really an "area" as such, just a...junction. There are some really nice streets 5 mins away but the junction itself is an exceptionally ugly and unpleasant place. It would have to be in my Top 10 "Places I'd rather not loiter in the early hours".

"Ruskin Village" makes me cringe! It's not a bloody village, it's Loughborough Junction. Makes me think of a few streets near me in Battersea called "Little India" because of the names of the streets, such as Afghan, Cabul, Candahar and Khyber... perhaps the estate agents baulked at calling it "Little Afghanistan".

lmao innit u must live pretty close to me tho ;)

I've moved out of my Little Batternistan des-res now and have moved to Loughborough Junction/Ruskin Village/Brixton Heights/West Camberwell/North Herne Hill or whatever it's called.

I'm very pleased with my new neighbourhood

No i'm not, i know exactly where I mean - the area running roughly from the station on Coldharbour Lane up towards the Lougborough Hotel, that sort of strip there.

That bit so small that it makes little sense to divide it into a Brixton end and a Camberwell end, you mean?:p

I'm just around the corner on the Old Kent Road. It's what you make of it. I like it.

Cliche notwithstanding... now you really are stretching the point. "Just around the corner"...it's nearly 3 miles away!. Remind me never to ask you for directions or do you an errand!

Bloody hell, Loughborough Junction must be booming as it seems to be going the way of all exclusive areas (cf Dulwich, Hampstead) and colonising all the areas around it. From now on:

Peckham = East Loughborough
Brixton = West Loughborough
Herne Hill = Loughborouh Village
Dulwich Village = South Loughborough:confused:

You missed out the South Bank – it's now Loughborough-on-Sea.

I stayed in one of his houses for a few months, and they were worse than most squats I've been to. The electrics went haywire when it rained
