Wot no Congratulations HM Queen Elizabeth II on being the longest reigning monarch thread?

You really are a thorougly unpleasant little individual.

Shall I mention that you are a recovering alcoholic with little to do with his day to day life - no family, no wife, no friends - a simple little librarian with grand ideas and far greater failures and no memories worth to speak of?

Pickman's calls you a cunt and this is your rebuttal?

Dickhead.

Just a quick question - what is the difference between the Queen and the Dalai Lama?

(admittedly, that sounds like the start of a bad joke...)

Oh look how clever I am, here's another chance to point out the hypocrisy of these morons, they clearly love the Dalai Lama and hate the queen. I'll phrase it as an innocuous question, then I'll look even more clever.

Fuck off.

Just so you know, Diamond, I've reported this post, not particularly because PM needs defending, but because I'm sick of your behaviour, derailing thread after thread with your pointless attention seeking.

You bring absolutely nothing to the table, except a sense of your own importance, and you make it increasingly tedious and difficult for anyone to have a half decent conversation on any thread you post on. There are very few posters who I would truely like to see the back of, but you are without a doubt, top of the list.

Hereditary person of power A - awful

Hereditary person of power B - great

And if you suggest that this might be hypocritical, then that makes you a cunt.

Get over yourself.

nobody gives a shit about the dalai lama bruv. Well. Tibetan buddhists might. And he annoys the chinese govmnt. Other than that? you'll need to demonstrate some dalai lovin' to call hypocrisy. I couldn't give a shit about him. (didn't even know he was hereditary, thought the monks chose him in some re-incarnation type deal. Every day a schoolday)

Stretching the concept of heridity with the tulku institution in Tibet.

So the line of succession in Tibetan Buddhism is materially different to the line of succession in the British monarchy?

The doctrine of Divine Right would seem to be common to both, no?

Do you have any idea how shit you are? I like arguing with you. For one reason; it's really, really easy. Sometimes it's nice to feel that sense of superiority, even if it's a hollow, dirty one. You're stuck in some public school debating club (probably the lower stream) with utterly empty points to make that your opponent will answer by rote in the correct form.

It's shit, you're humiliating yourself. Improve or go away.

Clearly if you think about it - it places far greater power in the clerical hierarchy and while you get disputed successions like the karmapa, no rival houses or claimants as common in European monarchies at a similar historical stage

So one person gets to instruct a whole society because they are divinely appointed and that's just fine and another person gets to regally swan over a whole society because they have the right blood and that is very, very wrong?

apples and oranges. why is it you always compare apples and oranges?

No one has said it's fine, just pointed out there isn't the close parallel you presume. Tibet had a central monarchy in earlier times and various petty kings up until recently. They saw the shift to clerical rule as a significant change and in various institutional aspects it was. They also retained a hereditary nobility where you might look for an analogue more profitably. Or try Bhutan.

I realise that asking you to back up any of your assertions is generally a waste of time, but could you please provide something (anything) to back up your claim that Urban in general (or even a handful of posters) supports the divine appointment of the Dalai Lama as the hereditary ruler of Tibet, because frankly, like so many of your thread-diverting bleatings, it's just factually incorrect and irrelevant bollocks.

This.

But if she really cared about her subjects she would die late October/early November and bridge that gap between August BH & Christmas

22nd October would be ideal if she can manage it. So the kids get a day off at the start of 1/2 term and we can all go mushie picking. Cheers Brenda.

Where on earth have you got the idea that the Dalai Lama is a widely admired figure on here?

who loves the dalai lama and the fairyland sugar coated version of tibetan buddhist history? guardian reading liberals.

perhaps its a really subtle insult to imply that we on the thread are such muselites

This is just obvious trolling not sure why anyone tolerates it

Can I suggest that people (as many people as possible) report it and make clear to the moderators how sick we are of Diamond's shit.

He won't stop, and individuals ignoring him doesn't help, so moderator intervention appears to be the only solution.
