Wossy calls BBC to account on number of BME employees

... If you think creative jobs at the beeb should be advertised in the local job centre I'm afriad you really are a very long way from grasping the enormity of the challenge.
I'm not referring to jobcentres in general, I'm not saying that every BBC vacancy should be advertised in every jobcentre across the land.

I'm talking in a very specific context:

The jobcentre is quite close to the BBC. The jobcentre is situated in an area that is home to two organisations that provide specialist training in video production (video camera operating and also video editing); in addition to which there is an organisation that runs radio production courses, and there are numerous RSLs (temporary radio stations) that broadcast from and to this local area, which is a ten minute walk away from the BBC (not to mention pirates), not to mention a large number of graduates from the local universities working or aspiring to work in the creative industries, many of whom have relevant experience and skills.

The people who have participated in those local video production and radio production courses have very specific skills that make them suitable candidates for 'creative' type posts within the BBC, not just security guard or secretary type posts.

Hence, I'm talking about a specific context, given the skills base of the local community. I'm not talking about a community of a load of random bods with no interest whatsoever in the creative industries, I'm talking about a vibrant and dynamic community consisting of a substantial number of people with relevant skills and experience to offer.

creative jobs? In the jobcentre? Are you some kind of radical? A commie?
See my response to London_Calling at #31 for an explanation as to why I think it's appropriate in this very specific context.

as a creative person myself i'd love to see the jobcentre accomadate these areas rather than laugh at me when i feeblky mention what i'm geniunely interested in (rather than compromise and tell them what i know they want to hear).

The BBC are desperate to promote black people up the ladder

remember when they grabbed a black bloke waiting to be interviewed for an IT job and interviewed him live in the studio as an expert on IT

Exactly! The particular jobcentre I'm referring to has a list of 'top ten' vacancies, which usually amounts to a list of jobs as security guard, check-out chick at the local supermarket, carer -- all very low paid jobs with antisocial hours.

Hang on, low paid? Anti-social hours? That's broadcast journalism? So why the hell don't they advertise those kinds of jobs? That seems to be their speciality! :D

... Question is whether it is a greater concern for the BBC than it might be for say, a City finance company. ...
BBC is publicly funded and accountable.

A city finance company is accountable only to its partners/shareholders.
