Worst Singer?

Ian Brown for me too.

But also - Lou Reed's pretty bad - and don't get me wrong - I like the VU and a lot of his solo stuff - but try listening to The Bells or anything he's done in the last ten years.

Anthony Kiedis is fucking awful live. As is Tim Wheeler from Ash (I was young and I went with a girl, ok?).

Although neither should be any surprise.

Before I'd even opened this thread I thought - Ian Brown. Had the misfortune of hearing his out of tune voice when the stone Roses played Reading back in 199? ....

-6.

My first Reading festival. How I laughed.

Rage Against The Machine were good though.

I remember seeing The Stone Roses on Snub and thinking ooh nice guitar jiggery, decent band....then Brown comes in singing like a constipated zombie and doing his silly monkey moves. I've hated them ever since.

Simply Mick Hucknell: he slides up to every note, then slides right past it. And does so in a way that is devoid of taste.

Him. I saw them at Reading and they were the worst live band I have ever ever seen. He sounded like he was having enough trouble getting sufficient air in his lungs, never mind having any spare to sing with. Really weak.

:D I've got a mental image of Mick on a skateboard, scooting past the top notes.

every time i hear a new recording of her live she seems to get more and more nasal. she's a good singer apart from that :hmm:

I was shocked how bad she was on Jools Hollands Hootenany thing over christmas - last time I really noticed her voice was on Nick Cave's Burder Ballads album and she seemed quite good back then.

William Shatner is the don

I have his cover of Common People on my alarm clock playlist :)

Yes, Shatner is the man.

"Has Been" is a really great album, most of it was co-written by Ben Folds. I especially like Shatner's cranky old git duet with Henry Rollins.

I know she's hugely admired, but I find Joanna Newsom's mannered singing style so irritating for me it's like listening to fingernails on a blackboard. Apart from early Soft Cell I can't bear the sound of Marc Almond's voice.
