Worst/best veggie processed food?

*Miss Daisy* said:
yes, they probably only eat nice things like flower petals, and seeds, and maybe some little baby carrots and turnips,
they couldnt possible eat meat,,not in my head they dont anyway ;)

right, end of derailment, sozz :D
No problems! I like fairies :)

I like spicy beanburgers - although I did go through a phase of eating them so often that I got sick of them and couldn't face them again for months. I also quite like the Tesco nut cutlets although suddenly they seemed to have a lot of onion on them which made me go off them. I might give them another go soon. I used to love Sosmix as well but someone told me it was really bad for you.

btw, the nicest 'sausage' rolls I have ever eaten were sosmix with grated carrot & chopped onion wrapped in bread dough (white, not wholemeal) and I'm not even a vegetarian.

Still yet to find those blasted fake fish fingers. They'd make my day/month/year as I was obsessed with fish finger sarnies as a lad.

You can get veggie fish fingers and fishless fishcakes. I've had them once (for the novelty really) they were ok iirc. Can't remember who makes them. Think I got them from the local health store.

The new olive & sundried tomato sausages from Cauldron are good, but the spicy morrocan ones not so.

haven't had sosmix in years, I used to live off that when i was a student. Now I am off to eat some cauliflower

Well Iceland do good fake bacon. It looks crap but tastes ok.

Sainsburys veggie range is v.good, their glam leek sausies are v.nice.

Linda McCartney stuff is nasty.

someone has to invent veggie fish that you can batter and eat with proper chips soaked in vinegar  Never tried fake fish myself.

Veggie haggis is quite nice but a bit dry.

Quorn southern fried nuggets are nice too, but I don't like their bacon - gives me indigestion.

I agree though - you can'r beat home-cooked food.

The veggie chicken nuggets were quite nice but stupidly overpriced for such a little box and really can't remember texture of meat...

Were they Linda McCartney?
If so they were yum.

I really like quorn swedish style balls, and I used to eat a lot of sainsbury beanfeast when I was skint. I prefer it to the brand version.

you can get sainsburys ones but still 2 quid for about six...
Oh and by the way-a general query to anyone reading this-if you live up North, can you still get loads of veggie processed stuff in the supermarkets? Just when seeing my man nr Blackpool, seems supermarkets have less range-for example the poor fellow had never before tried spinach and gruyere quorn sausages, the 'pork' and apple ones or seen the new escalopes...Is this a regional divide or just where he lives?

Vegi Deli by redwoods is good The dog even liked their sage and onion slices

I was impressed it takes a lot to impress me when it comes to vegan mock chicken slices

I've just purchased a Clive's organic pie - mexican something or other. I hope it tastes as good as it looks!
they are lush!
often had to get 2 for my lunch, 1 to stuff straight away :o and one to savour, mmmmm

linda's sausages are ok but can get boring as can the nut cutlets.
so what i used to do when everyone else was having bacon sarnies/rolls was to have a nutculet mashed up with 3 linda's cut open, loadsa ketchup, some fake vegan mayonnaise and a bit of tomato. all grilled, well nice.
got some fake fish cutlet the other day, it was weird.

Are they the ones sold in Morrisons? My cat loves quorn turkey and stuffing

It was very nice - could have done with being a bit spicier, but then I suppose not everyone is addicted to chilli as me!

I think I will have to try out the others in the range.

I have to agree about ersatz meat products. I prefer veg to be veg, iyswimQUOTE]

exactly, what's the point of all this pretending to be meat food  you eat veg or meat or whatever, so what? there is some lovely vegetarian food out there that doesn't sell itself as veggy.

Ive always found the 'fake meat' thing to be a bit strange really, much prefer vege food to be, well , veg....

However i do enjoy the Cauldron falafel, although i think im gonna have a bash at making them myself.

Also love the Cauldron burgers - the peanut, carrot ones - not the proper burger style, which are to be frank, rank!!>. :D

Surely the only people who actually have valid opinions on whether fake meat is weird, strange or wrong are vegetarians themselves. Everybody else is quite free to completly ignore it, if that's what they want to do.

Are you saying that my opinion isnt valid?!

If you're quite happy to eat dead animal burgers/sossies/whatever, then yes, I have no interest at all in what your opinion of meat substitutes is, except perhaps that you don't want them on your plate.

I don't really go for 'fake' meat products cos I don't like the taste of meat... but the tivall hotdog veggie sausages are pretty good.

I think the sausage thing is okay because most meat sausages don't taste that meaty in general......

Quorn sausages are pretty good imho. Much better than that mccartney crap. Cauldron do a nice sasuage too. Not as goot as the real thing, but ok if you're with a veggie ;)

They rock with a bit of Bisto onion gravy and mash.

TVP is my favourite vege processed food cos my it's light and my mum can post it to Korea for me each moth very cheaply. Spagbol galore here! :)

Worst vege processed food? Bloody SosMix. I used to have to spend hours mixing that crap with water and rolling out little sauasage type things when I worked in a vege cafe, too much water and you're left with what looks like cat litter floating in slime.

well as someone who has been a vegetarian for about 14 years i think you are making a slight assumption .... :)

:D I included vegetarians in my "useful opinions" section. I just quoted you because you were the last person in the thread to dis the burgers.

McCartney stuff is orrible
Quorn is OK and widely available in the middleofnowheresville
Cauldron Tivall Redwood, etc. all good but dear and hard to get round yere
Morningstar Farms streaky strips are my fave baconalike (Tesco's own are deeply poor), fry a few onions and slam some in a sarnie with mustard and ketchup....mmmmmmmmmmm

I have no problem with pretend meat products. There are a few Linda McCartney things I don't like, the burgers and pies come to mind and I'm not mad for her chicken style things.

I eat loads of the sausages, sausage rolls etc and a fair bit of Quorn. Veg Hot dogs (I think all are made by Tivali including shops own brand?) are way better than any meat ones I remember eating. Sainsbury's or Quorn meatballs are good too.

I think of veggiemeat as being junk food really, something of a necessity with a busy lifestyle and no time or wish to eat and cook from scratch every night.

Sometimes I just want to eat something skanky. I can't say I ever feel unfit because of what I eat. I fart a lot though  :D

They've stopped selling them in the UK now. Due to them not being able to state that they are not using GM soya (due to US labelling law) and they have a policy not to sell GM to the UK.
thread here

:) I'm a veggie but my b/f and son eat meat, so when my son wanted hotdogs, b/f went and got him some meat ones which my son didnt like, so I tried him with some Tivilli ones and he loves them, which is great news for me, he doesnt eat much meat, mainly bacon, he hates burgers and stuff like that,
Sainsburys in Bournemouth is crap for veggie food, not much choice at all,
I have found some lovely nut cutlets made by Goodlife, (recommended)
Also theres a nice Organic Korma curry sauce made by "Seeds of Change) very handy to have in the cupboard and tastes lovely,
