i'm a fan of ewan macgregor and i like his obi wan kinobe impression, i didn't realise that he was putting a voice on for trainspotting, just sounded like an edinburgh voice to me

his nick leeson impression was rubbish tho even tho i liked the film

It's not good. Bobby Carlisle's is, though. He's from Glasgow, and managed to transport his accent across country.

Spike had been in the US for decades though so it sort of works in a way.

It also works because the accent the character uses isn't his real accent either. Spike is originally an upperclass guy, but the he uses a lower class one to sound tough.

Oh, and don't forget that bonestructure...

They have him at the Boxer Rebellion China (when was that, 1900 odd?) where he got his taste for taking the slayer.

I think he was still posh until he discovered punk in '76.

Was in New York in the 70s where he killed another slayer.

Christ I'm bored.

How's Maggie Smith's?
:D Miss Jean Bodie? Perfect Morningside.

Before the film franchise, I used to read the Harry Potter books to my eldest daughter. I used the Jean Brodie voice for Professor McGonagall. I wasn't at all surprised when she was later cast in the role. It was exactly right.

Anthony La Paglia as Daphne's supposedly Manchunian brother in "Frasier" :(:(
:D Legend has it that she did initially do Manc in rehearsals, but was told realism wouldn't be required, and was sent to a voice coach to get something right for the American audience.

That's what I have heard too!

I got used to her accent in the end and at least she sounded kind of British but Antony la Paglia, fine actor as he is, was stupendously bad. A sort of strangled mid-atlantic aiming for cockernee. Nowhere near Britain least of all Manchester :D

I must be the only person who was really impressed with Spike's accent. I was so surprised to find out James Marsters was American! :o

*still can't actually see what was wrong with it*

And it was certainly better than Angel's Oirish lilt :D

Yes, the milder parts were okay but anything distinctive had to be filed down to US Standard TV.

Come to think of it there are some fucking awful fake American accents that you hear on UK TV and radio. I don't watch much TV these days but the ones on Radio 4 are terrible - the only decent one I can think of is Michael Brandon's, and he's actually American.

Dennis Quaids Cajun accent in The Big Easy was just weird.

Brad Pitt as the IRA terrorist in The Devils Own.

Dick Van Dykes famously shitty cockney in Mary Poppins.

Mel Gibson in Braveheart.

Series Two of Heroes, and the Orish actors who found "Peedher", and the greatly phrased question "What have you done with mi Oi-pods?"

Awful self-aware Bejazus Orish actors, I am sure there must be actual Irish actors out there somewhere....

Yeah I was thinking about those Heroes Irish accents earlier and considering starting the very same thread based on that! Christ they were bad.

The most hilarious thing was when they said they were going to the 'Celtic' match!

Richard E Grant and Max Beesley doing Scottish accents in The Match. They got a load of English actors to play Scots in this film for some bizarre reason - there should have been an outrage about it.

The Master.
Really? I thought he was an actual Cockney?
