Worse away ends past and present.

Oh and Palmerston Park in Dumfries, home of Queen of the South. Uncovered terrace with the most pathetic support I've ever witnessed.

You;ve not been to many lower league grounds, have you? QOS must have been doing badly when you played them, as they have one of the more reliable home supports outit the EssPeeEll

Away end at Readings old ground Elm Park - the terrace was more like a concrete hill to fall down when we scored cos all the steps had crumbled away.
Then there were the locals.
*runs away*

The beauty of the Elm Park away end was the wasteland behind it which conveniently was littered with half bricks and breeze blocks. Milwall used to love coming because they didn't have to bring any weapons as Reading provided them all.

Changed now as you get half of the seats alongside the length of the pitch. And actually as away days go quite like QOTS. Decent pubs near the ground and friendly fans. Not a bad day out.

Seconded.

I also second McDiarmid Park whether in the away end or the home - and I'm a Saints fan.

Never been to Stranraer, but if my workmate's reports from the weekend are anything to go by, it's a shiter and no mistake. £12 an'.all

Not been for about 10years and even then it wasnt great. Only thing is to make it a day out on the lash. Which is hard when they make it a Tuesday night away tie - barstewards. You would really think the SFL would think about it when making folk travel that far during the week!!

Yup. Stair Park= dump.

locals also attract radges for 'big' games. An Ayr supporting friend of mine went down there in the late 80s and got surrounded on the way to the ground. However they vansied as quickly as the shop shutters went down by the fortuitously timed arrival of the Ayr Service Crew.

The Old Den was pretty poor. I recollect that one lot of away fans sued in the county court under the sales of goods act or summit!
remember it well :yes it was 2 lads because they had their view of the pitch obscured by stantions and said it devalued ther viewing of the game the next time they went though they were given the best seats in the house.
facing away from the pitch. :D

i remember going to watch hibs away at St Johnstone (McDiarmid Park)
about 7/8 years ago it was the first time id watched them away as i was working up in perth and having a soft spot for them and they got beat 4.0
the best away support for a midweek game ive seen at that time :(
but your right about there being more atmosphere on the moon. :D

It was actually quite well attended, the fans were just silent. This was years ago, I hear they've started singing since going up to division one.

I've based my past two nominations on the fans. But in terms of being a shithole, I can't believe no-one has mentioned Somerset Park in Ayr. How that place passes any kind of health and safety is beyond me.

Think we need proper guidelines here. I can't see that Exeter should be allowed in for example just 'cos it's small and has no roof - I've been there several times when it's been sold out and at least you can see all of the pitch and if the game's really bad you can hide in the shrubbery at the back!

No way does an afternoon at St James Park compare to the misery of Layer Road or the Manor.

Feel I should also nominate the Recreation Ground, Aldershot. You enter via a nature trail through the local park, you have to share the end with the neanderthal home support which means that the floor to ceiling partition stops you from seeing the far corner at your end. Catering facilities seemed to be a small barbecue set up for the benefit of the anticipated travelling hordes from the big league.

Special mention for the Oigoile's siting of the away fans in the Devonport End corner which used to be a family enclosure during the redevelopment of Home Park. The packed nature of the terrace during the second round Cup match meant that it was yet another venue where sight of the whole pitch was wishful thinking. We got pelted with things by the Central Element who'd bravely sited themselves above us in the Mayflower Stand. There was a happy ending - we stuffed the buggers in the replay and went on to dump Derby out in the next round :)

Ah, indeed. Good old fashioned fayre, Somerset....:D

At the Shots now you get an away concrete slab to stand on whilst trains run behind you right in the bottom corner of the ground.

It's rancid, just like their catering and a small section of their support.

Just did - on the away toilets thread!! Actually really like trips to Somerset Park as again a good day out with some decent town centre pubs and lovely train journey from Paisley/Glasgow. Stadium not the best, but not too bad and a bit of atmosphere. However the toilets.....
