worlds greatest actor (ch4, sunday 9pm-1am) - your thoughts?

Olivier may well come first.

Brando se...no wait. Olivier second, Brando first (all about Godfather innit ;))

Crowe could well make it up there thinking...hmmm.

I need more people to discuss this with face to face like, I could go on all night.

edit: and noticeably get it wrong! :o

(these programmes were designed for an argumentative mouth like me ;))

For Virtuosity alone he's had his Oscar revoked as well as his right to star in any more films. Russell Crowe will be publicly auctioned next month in order to raise funds for those who suffered irreparable damage after viewing the aforementioned train wreck. Denzel Washington has, as yet, not been apprehended for his crimes.

virtuosity is shite, true - but he's made worse...

anyway, point is - he's done some amazing stuff (Romper stomper, the Insider, A beautiful mind, gladiator) - real range and chameleon stuff. but depp is also worthy - i'm just surprised RC didn't place in the top 80... not popular in the buisness tho - maybe it counted against him.

I guess he's got his Oscar, but his attitude of 'nah fuck it, i'm off to tour with my band' may have had an influence on some of the higher echelons of the thespians ;)

Just noticed Depps pencilled in for The Rum Diaries - another H.S Thompson piece

Hmmm.

Personal inclusions would have included...

John Cusack
Bill Murray
Marlene Dietrich

How Sinatra gets in is a bit beyond me though.

Ooh, possibly Morgan Freeman as well - if you need a supporting actor, he's yer man.

And with that, farewell and adieu to you fair urban posters. I'm off to bed.

A selection from the AFI list who are all worthy of inclusion in my opinion:

Fred Astaire
Henry Fonda
Clark Gable
Jimmy Cagney
Gary Cooper
Gregory Peck

about schmidt
chinatown
witches of eastwick
the postman always rings twice
easy rider
little shop of horrors

some real variety there - much more so than de niro, certainly...

Since when has Jack Nicholson been in Little Shop Of Horrors

You kind of forget how much he's done; and how very few, if any, have been flops or poor performances.
He hasn't been in that much and there have been quite a lot of his films that haven't done well at the US box office. They probably didn't cost much, but the following did poorly:

Arizona Dream
Nick of Time
Astronaut's Wife
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Ninth Gate
Libertine
Man Who Cried
Cry Baby

I haven't seen any of these, however, a quick review of one film guide suggests that I haven't missed much.
