World Of Warcraft!

Bringing this bolloxey honour system in has made it almost impossible to Quest in contested areas. I spent 3 hours in Stranglethorn Vale last night and about an hour of that time was spent as a ghost. Always get jumped by Horde when fighting a mob  It takes me about a week now to lvl up when it used to be done in a night. The only answer I get off lvl 60 arseholes is 'go and play on a PvE server then'. I like PvP...... when it's fair.

I just got Guild Wars. Cool game and looks slick. I wasnt too sure about it at first but it gets better the more you play and you don't get ganked every 2 minutes. The lvl cap is only 20 so everyone caps out quickly. So when you PvP its a very balanced playing field. very cool
i've just got 4 levels til the big five-o in eqII then i'm thinking bout switching to guildwars. although soe have announced expansion to lvl 60 cap in september. hmm, even so, after i've completed the heritage quests i think i'm gonna feel a bit bored with it. it sure aint the same game i started playing 6 months ago. best thing about the game is the people i've met, friends i've made. hoping my guild will move to guildwars as well. :)

Been looking at the GW site, tempting game...

Wow

Been playing Wow since release...am totally addicted...battlegrounds will be in soon which I'm really looking forward to. :D :D :D

I've only ever played single-player RPGs (the BG series mainly plus a bit of NWN & Morrowind). How do WoW and GW compare?

The appeal about WoW and GW is that there are other people to party up with.

Instead of having, say Minsk and Boo help you out in defeating a monster, you have player x and player y. You also have player Z out to kill you.

These games are also more open and you seem to stop following the storyline after a while but that doesnt matter. Its the community that ARE the storyline in a sense.

You get lots of good players, bad players and all out idiots on mmorpgs as you owuld in real life- as after all, it is another human being playing that warrior/mage.

I'll end by saying, the only reason you'll buy GW is if you dont want to pay a monthly fee. Its nowhere as good in terms of gameplay in my opinion.

And oh yeah. Battlegrounds tomorrow :D

Thanks for that. I get the idea of online MP games (I play counter strike etc). I really meant - are the systems for inventory, skills, magic, stats and so forth similar? Also BG is top-down isometric, NWN more 3-d and Morrowind is First Person and you fight by actually bashing and shooting (whereas the others you just select weapon, postion and target, but let the computer resolve the combat - or decide to run away). I was kind of asking which RPG WoW and GW are most similar to?

You can change the angle/view in WoW, all the way to being first person, but I think most people play so that it look similar to the style used in NWN. Spells/items etc are also pretty similar to NWN/BG.

You have lots of different options in combat, but essentially, it is a case of selecting target and postioning yourself in the right spot. To be honest, just take a look at the WoW website and it'll give you a better view of how the game looks etc.

Oh, and don't play it. It WILL consume your life. Trust me.

Just got this, I'm a female Orc wizard, which makes for some interesting conversations, one player has already said I'm 'cute' *tosses hair*. :D

Anyone got any tips, advice or gold they wanna give me?

This is actually BMD posting - GAH!!!!! Bloody RS, log out when you turn the pc off you fucker!!! :D

Guild Wars has no montly fee? *sits up with interest*

Nope. £20 for the game then free online play.

Keeping me from even bothering to install WoW for the last few months.

Yeah but how many games a month do they have to seel in order to pay for customer service, patches, expansions etc. Happy though i am too believe that WoW and EQ2 are making massive profits at least an element of thet incomer is essential to maintain a online game. It seems inevitable that Guild wars have to cut corners somewhere and how long will they keep with something if it doesn't make a profit for them?

Just the server costs must be massive, anyone know how they keep going?

They sell expansions and stuff (one due soon), afaik, but beyond that, no clue.

Patches are done on an ongoing basis as you play. No idea about Customer Services, but I've had no probs with it anyway (not a massive or complex install or app), so don't need it.

Works for me, though. I reckon they must be doing fine, cos they've got a LOT of players. And as I said, it suits me that I can leave it for a week and not feel like I've lost out on something I had to pay for...

Had a play on Wow @ a mate's earlier. Here's the big diff...

In Guild Wars, only the towns and camps are persistent environments. Once you form a group (either alone, with henchmen or with other people) and transit out of town or camp, you're in a private map. There are specific PvP areas, arenas and the like which players share. So you can't wander into an area and nick someone else's kills (for example).

WoW appears to be entirely persistent, no?

Err is simple how they keep going. 250,000 people play WoW and each pay $8.99 per month. Thats $2 Million a month. You get a lot of servers and a lot of bandwidth for $1 Million and you only need to buy the servers once.
