World Cup Qualifiers

Or are you seriously suggesting that the table reflects their recent performances?
Nope, our prior performances and our current ones over the last year or so - they reflect results, not perfomances. Yes, we've played fucking awful totally shit, uninventive and passionless football over the last few games. But we're still likely to qualify.

england are so fucking weak! if we make it to the world cup, we're going to get dicked if we keep playing like that.

will beckham get to appeal his sending off in time for poland?

Theres more chance of Cardiff City winning anything than Wales getting to a major competition.

A few lucky runs

England aren't playing well. but 3 games...2 wins

Now...if they hadn't have won in 18months like say...ooooh...erm...Wales....then we'd be worried

Well, he got two yellows and he'd need them both to be rescinded, so I can't see it happening.

So you're not in the slightest bit concerned about your recent performances against hugely 'inferior' teams then?

You're not troubled by England struggling against Wales, losing to Northern Ireland and today's truly shoddy offering?

Not with the holland score as it is...we'll worry in Germany next June...

Let's get real here - England have been chronically underperforming for about 4 games now. Wales and Scotland have been doing that for about 4 decades :)
Oh, and even when England underperforms, they still often win!

Here we go, here we go, here we go.....
....losing in the semi-finals probably...

Exactly. We're shit, but we've qualified. Everyone else in the group (bar Poland) are just shit.

Judging by England's truly lamentable performance today, it's nit that unlikely.

Christ that was crap - it was like watching a third division team hanging on for a giantkilling FA Cup win.

No it is that unlikely. England are that terrible yet Wales couldn't manage a goal in 2 games agaiinst them.

No matter how bad England are, we'll still probably win Wednesday.

Nice to see the realistic appraisals of the England team. From one extreme to the other in 3 months.

I still think this is a really good group of players mind. Just that they're so far from looking like a decent side that barring a miracle they'll still look like shit come next summer.

I can't remember who posted it the other month but they were spot on. England performances (like a lot of other European teams) are more than likely a symptom of the state of international football whereby you do enough to win and thats it. Whilst qualifiers are squeezed in amongst Champions League games it will always be the same.

England have as good a qualifying record as Italy yet nobody will bat an eyelid if we started talking about Italy getting to the latter stages - I've seen some of the performances that Italy, Holland and France have come up with in qualifying and thay have looked just as poor but because nobody sees the games, everyone just looks at the stats and decides we obviously can't compete. If England win on Wednesday they've just done what the others have done and pulled out a good performance when it was needed. Knowing Sven though, he probably thinks job done already and will settle for a draw.

England are far better than the German team that got to the last World Cup final. Its all about luck of the draw.

Although when Motty starts questioning your decisions, you do have a problem and I really don't see England winning anything with Sven in charge.

I agree. I remember the qualifying games for Euro 2000. France lost to Russia 3-2 at home (and Russia weren't that good at the time), they only beat Andorra (a considerably worse side than Austria) 1-0 due to a last minute Leboeuf penalty, and scraped past Armenia 3-2. yet they won the tournament, with everyone raving about what a great side they were.

England...the international love child of Aston Villa and Tottenham

Who are Newcastle's equivalents? The Guardian described Sweden as West Ham without the flair before the last world cup, which I found quite odd...

I suspect England will be a different beast come the actual tournament. The players are there, they haven't lost their skill, they've lost motivation. I just hope Sven plays it better tactically then last time. We were far too safe at Euro 2004.
