World Cup 2010 draw - UEFA qualifying zone

Here's the Asian draw:

Group 1:
Australia, Qatar, China, Iraq

Tough for china then. I can see them, as usual, failing to qualify. Iraq are a pretty handy team (won this year's asian cup) and Australia are good too.

The Chinese love football, and their team has some of the best players in Asia, yet they don't play as a team - sound familiar?

No wonder the Chinese love the England team so much :D

I reckon there should be a 'Borat box' in every newspaper office and TV studio, so that anyone mentioning Borat (in the context of the match) in the week prior to it should have to donate 50 quid to charity.

Group 3: Czech Republic, Poland, Northern Ireland, Slovakia, Slovenia, San Marino

The Czechs aren't the force that they used to be, and the Poles have done well in the Euros qualifying group but are beatable. If Northern Ireland can achieve a consistent run of form and Healy has his shooting boots on again, I can see them getting in the play-offs from this group.

Group 4: Germany, Russia, Finland, Wales, Azerbaijan, Liechtenstein

This will be very, very tough for the Welsh. They can start by taking 12 points from the matches against the minnows, but Azerbaijan are not the easiest of opponents.

Group 6: Croatia, England, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Andorra

Certainly harder than the Euros group out of which we have just, abysmally, failed to qualify.

The players will certainly be up for the Croatia matches and at least they're not Italy, France or Germany. Ukraine may be entering a period of decline but still won't be an easy proposition. Belarus I don't know much about, but should not be taken lightly. And the away match in Kazakhstan could be interesting .... wonder if they'll send Sacha Baron Cohen out there as a special envoy like they did with Norman Wisdom when we played Albania. :D

Group 8: Italy, Bulgaria, Republic of Ireland, Cyprus, Georgia, Montenegro

Very, very tough indeed for the Republic. Can't see them coming out of that group. Even Montenegro, who could be tougher opponents than the sixth seeding suggests.

Group 9: Holland, Scotland, Norway, FYR Macedonia, Iceland

Not bad. The Dutch have just had a poor qualifying tournament and Van Basten is under pressure. Norway, Macedonia and Iceland can all be strong on their day but if the Scots can continue their present progress, I reckon they'll make the play-offs out of this group.

the way this thread's going there should be a Borat box on Urban

I think Scotland have been handed the easiest group out of all the home nations. There are seom tricky teams, but nothing they didn't cope with admirably in the EUro qualifiers (Georgia excepted).

The other groups aren't allowed to use their results against the 6th team when determining who came 2nd. The worst 2nd placed country won't be entered in the playoffs. Slightly confusing I know...

Spain

Bosnia
Estonia
Armenia

No way Spain will win that group....I hope...Bosnia, Estonia, Armenia and Belgium home and away should be easy victories. From what I've seen of Belgium, Bosnia coudl well finish above them. So it boils down to the games against Turkey, tricky away but we should have them at home.

Spain are always a funny team..you always expect them to do better than they do...bit like us. You never know in football though. Im a fan of spain never disliked them, so we'll see.

I think Scotland probably have the toughest of the lot. You don't go to Macedonia and win well, if at all and the others could go tits up just as easy.

If we get an Italian style manager for England then thank god, gd versus Andorra won't count.
