World Athletics Championships 2015

Yeah, he blew it totally. In the same way Ronaldinho at his best almost used his reputation to baffle opponents, the very fact Bolt was right up with him at 70m made him totally crack.

This too, he has had no competition this season and suddenly he does and it unsettles him. And you can't give Bolt any chances!

That third KJT* jump is like Southgate's penalty in '96. Every time I watch it I want it to change :(

*as someone with a double barreled surname I really should find out how she feels about this acronym; I don't like people using mine but that's to do with the letters I think. There are cool initials and uncool ones, and mine are uncool :( KJT's I think are pretty good.

Is it obvious I have work I don't want to be doing :hmm:

Don't know what's more surprising - the fact she's using that as motivation or the fact she's allowed coffee. I would have thought that wouldn't be very good for the body chemistry of an elite athlete

What do those little radio controlled sports cars do on the infield, I vaguely remember seeing some program about them but forget what they do?

Do you mean the ones that collect the javelins, hammers, etc?
Yes I seem to remember they used mini models at the London olympics to return javelins and so on but the ones in Beijing are much smaller maybe the shot and discus perhaps.

E2a: yes you're right they are collecting javelins.Just seen another shot of one they are quite big, think is a case of this is big this is small cause it's so far away.

Following the BBC newsfeed and just read this

This year's 100m silver medallist has refused to speak to the BBC. Gatlin goes in the fourth heat of 200m (12:51 BST).

His agent, Renaldo Nehemiah, told the Guardian:

“Justin, as well as I, feel that the British media and journalists have been extremely unkind to him. There’s been nothing positive said about him now for some time. Every characterisation is solely about doping and vilifying him.

“So, to maintain his own dignity and self-respect, he feels it best not to speak to them. The BBC in particular should report without lacing their comments and reporting with biased views.”

The other four Britons to hold that distinction: Jonathan Edwards, Linford Christie, Sally Gunnell and Daley Thompson. Pretty good company!
But Jonathan Edwards, Sally Gunnell and Daley Thompson were also world record holders at the time....

Weird, in the 200m heats the winner ran completely into the next door lane of Brit Margaret Adeoye! Not just overstepped the lines, but actually ran the last 50m or so in Adeoye's lane!

Just been reading that, isn't it an automatic disqualification?
Apparently not! Word from the BBC text feed:
News filtering through that Veronica Campbell-Brown is through to the semi-finals because, according to the rule book, the Jamaican did not impede another athlete or gain an advantage from straying into the wrong lane.

"What's the point of having lanes, then?" asks a colleague.

Crammy just read the rule out. Apparently not if it's in the straight and no advantage is gained and no-one else is impeded...

I like it when rules help the competition to happen and don't automatically try to disqualify.....:)
