Working Xmas again - can they do this to me?

I'm not though

Yeh you are

They're saying unless you have kids you're not receiving this extra payment, is that not discrimination?

Sorry for taking your thread OT this kinda thing just riles me that's all!

What hours do you have to work? I'd work Christmas Day for £150, you may even be home for a late Christmas dinner. But I agree that it is out of order to ask you to do it three years in a row.

No, I haven't got kids, so I don't qualify for it - having kids is not an incentive for that extra £150 a month - I think it's quite a good thing for an employer to do for them as well as their staff, as it keeps skilled people in their jobs and helps out the employee. I may envy the extra £150, but I don't envy the bother of a kid.

I'm not sure I agree it's right, but your altruism impresses. Someone who knows this chap buy him a pint please.

Don't be daft

so what happens if you really are ill?

either you are bothered enough about it to want to skive it off or you are not.

if not then whats the problem?

build up to it and make it a two week thiong not just some 48 hour bug

Then they'd get cover or deal without
But I wouldn't be ill, would I?

You need a doctor's note for that, I don't do lying and I wouldn't want to work in a small team with you.

I don't understand the question

I AM bothered. I'm fucking pissed off - I want to spend my first Xmas with my nephew

Have you asked a work mate to swap shifts with you, explaining that this will be xmas number 3 working?

Edit - sorry, just seen that that didnt work.

Can your family do a special nephew xmas with you on another day? Not the same I know, but at least you could do a family meal and he could open pressies from you then, or something?

Are you still going to be there at Christmas? It's a long time away.
I've been here for 6 years and apart from the Xmas working and the holidays I really like it. I do wnat to move on though, just don't have a clue where to as I can't afford a paycut

Can someone confirm they're buying the ginger prince a pint please? (The goodwill in this will further warm my cockles!)

Can you not book holiday over Xmas OU? The way our rota works here means your days fall over Xmas for four years in a row, but you can take leave. That normally means you end up working New Year though, so it's not ideal.

Only if someone covers, which is what I'm gonna ask about

There are probably vacancies at our place.

If you're going to get shafted, might as well get shafted while in receipt of a tax free salary in a country where the sun shines (apart from this week, because it's rainy season :( But it should start shining again soon! :) )

That is shitty.

Would it be possible for someone to cover part of the shift at least? Or would that not be possible because of travel?
