Worker fired for union organising - call for support 12th of September

Derf - your attitude is basically 'take it as it comes' then? If the market is in control at the end of the day, i wouldn't get too worried about us - i'm sure it can deal with a few workers and their unions :)

And of course the police in sheffield are aware of this, this is a trade union picket, and its been in the papers. Apart from name - dropping the fact you have a mate on the force, what was the point of that? That you have some secret insider info about a public event posted on a public forum?

Mate, you wanna quit your job cos M15 are just WAITING for your call.

I see that your little show is today so enjoy the day and rest assured that South Yorkshire police are aware that you are out having fun.
A mate is a DI over there so I took the trouble to say hello to him yesterday.
That's quite one of the most shameful posts I've seen on urban for a while, you know.

Good luck with this dispute. Normally I'm the first to shout out when a dispute is wrong or just an ego trip for a union leader but this is a case I will not. This is a case where an organisation is sacking people just for speaking out to management about poor conditions and should be challenged.

Oh you did

I didn't know you'd ever been in the IWW butchers.

Yeah 10 years before a man abut town like you was and, oddly enough you sent me another face-about-town pm asking me why i was in the IWW not a few months ago - remember? I guess not. Too many secretive gala dinners and men-about-town plans probably. Give up actiivism eh?

Don't start with silly digs mate, please. And yes, i'd forgotten that exchange, i'll check my PMs. It would be great to see a branch on the IWW in bristol.

I've completely forgotten that and tbh it makes no sense cos i joined the wobs the first time i came across them in2006 and have been in ever since. I'd be asking ppl to join, not why...

One for the PMs :)

But the idea is that people who have nothing to do with this dispute are being asked to picket the place so that makes it a ganging up on the owners and not just a union action.
If it was the workers at the place that would be another story but that's not the case is it?
I would be interested to know if the people who work there are part of the action or not. If not it suggests that the picket may be misguided or worse.

So am I allowed to talk to a mate about something in the public domain. All I did was mention that there may be people turning up who have nothing to do with the cinema and that it was being advertised on the net.
If you are doing nothing illegal there is no need to be bothered about it.

Been into that one. The money may be nothing in the UK but it's more than many are earning out here. She's considered lucky to be working for me.
Actually, if we are going for the facts, she works for my wife as she is the one to employ her, pay her and sort out her duties.

As for shameful Ed, is it not the duty of everyone to support the law of the land and let the police know if there is a potential for problems?
Again if it was the workers only that's fine but this is asking all and anyone to come along with no idea of who may turn up and what agenda they may have. Even if the organiser has a peaceful intent there is nothing to say that someone else has.

No one makes them ask for a job and they know the wages offered before they take work.

And bosses exploit the jobs market to keep wages down in order to increase profits. Which is why it is perfectly legal for workers to organise themselves into trades unions where-by they can mutually withdraw their labour at any point they feel they are being exploited.

Fucking left wing "the world owes me a favour" type bollocks.
Get off your fat arses and try it yourself before you have a go at others and you will soon change your tune.

I might just do that. I hear child labour in India is pretty cheap at the moment and they pay good money for textiles in the UK.

.

As the boss has the right to sack them if they are no longer wanted for whatever reason.
Pity the law fails to allow the boss the same freedoms that the workers have.
In this case the worker was sacked for nothing if the op is to be believed so why not take action against the company in court but I suspect that the company was in the right and the trouble makers know that so they resort to this crap.

As for the maid we have just employed another one.

Never too young to earn a living and understand the free market.

Not just any people though, workers. So, being workers and not being bosses, we think they have enough in common with the dispute to get involved :)

So you are trying to tell me that a load of ordinary working people go to these things. What a load of old bollocks. It's only the lefty militant types that ever bother.

So how many turned uo at the bash I wonder.

Let me walk you through this one. "Lefty millitant types" are human beings, we need to eat and like having a roof over our heads, consequently, most of us have jobs.

So get on with some hard work and earn an honest living to the best of your ability instead of moaning on about how people that do work hard should keep you in beer and a new plasma TV.
I got so sick of listening to people moaning about rich bastards while continuing to waste money smoking, boozing or fucking about with drugs.
Save the cash and invest it to make more money.
Capitalism is the way to earn a good living.

A well argued post

I see your capitalist ideal is working wonderfully in the west at the moment.

No wonder you fucked off elsewhere. What, with it being so perfect and everything you upped sticks and went to exploit people in third world countries instead.

Unfortunately you haven't dropped into a vat of sulphuric acid yet but it's only a matter of time so all is good.

For "Free" my arse. He's either a troll which means he's intellectually redundant or he is actually what he says he is which makes him morally and emotionally baron too.

He's not long with this world now, the cancer will start to spread.

Ooo, very appropriate swap of baron for barren there

I do teach in local schools free of charge. There are so few native English speakers around so I'm able to help the kids greatly.
As for the anti drugs stuff. A local copper who I have got to know well asked me to take part in a talk a while ago. It went so well we do them all together now.
I don't get paid for any of that work and I'm happy both to help the kids and keep help keep the stupidity with illegal drugs away from here.

Just imagine a world with no drugs and none of the drug related crime. I have it here and anything I can do to keep it that way I am happy to do for nothing.

Only a fucking idiot would argue that I'm doing something bad there.
