    1. Last month my umbrella company took twice the monthly fee from me , when I called to complain I was told that I would not get the money paid back until the end of the month, I then asked to escalate the call to a manager and all of a sudden I was told I would get the money back via Same day payments ( which I pay extra for ) , I then got a text to say I would be getting the money back via BACS, I called to complain again to discover the payroll team had gone home ( or at least said they had ) and there was nothing I could do , this was after being assured by 3 different members of staff that I would be getting the money that day.

Fast forward to this month , I submitted my timesheets , was told again ( in fact assured ) by 2 members of staff as I wanted to chase them up as I really don't trust them that I would be getting paid same day payments, which again I have signed up for , on my pay-slip it shows they have taken the £35 charge I pay for same day payments , I then get a text saying I would be getting paid by BACS, ( so no payment on Friday , and will turn up tomorrow. I called and emailed to complain, when I realized I was speaking to one of the same people who assured me I would be paid by my chosen payment method ( SDP ) , I said with all due respect I would like to speak to someone else as I feel I have been misled ( again ) this member of staff, then got quite abrupt bordering on rude , trying to tell me that he said , I would get paid by my chosen payment method , to which I explained that the method is same day payments , and the charge has been deducted and to look at my payslip. I then got put through to someone else who said they would look into it first thing today and get back to me this morning. I'm still waiting.
Im pissed off to be honest, not about waiting for the money but basically being lied to on multiple occasions

    @ruffneck - that ^^^^ stinks !
Not sure how it helps, but when my OH was doing supply teaching, there was a choice of umbrella companies that the various agencies / schools used for payments, and a choice was made on the basis of least rubbish behaviour (supply teachers talk to each other !).

e2a - not sure if that fee for SDP is a bit on the high side ...
and if you are not getting that service then the fee(s) should be refunded.

i used to use a different umbrella company that were great but my agency gave me a list of umbrella companies and the one I use wasn't on their list , so without a lot of fucking about to use my chosen one, I chose Parasol ( yes named and shamed..), not only have I had these issues, every month I have to chase them up as they say my agency hasn't sent through the remittance but they have recieved the payment but dont know who to give it too, but my agency swears every month that they have, there's something very fishy about this company

My OH had similar, but with Cr*p!t*.
I think one possible reason for the delays is that the money is then in their a/c for longer. Unlike the banks, with their "payment clearing" delays, they don't then use the interval for financial dealing ...

dervish if you flibble when you wibble, don't wobble

Parasol are shit, I've had to use them, once.

Who are the others? Maybe there's a better one on there, Umbrella companies are parasites, going limited is not that difficult if you have the option, if not, move to another one. They charge a lot for not doing very much, if they can't get the basics right then use someone else if you can.

got an email back , just now :
I hope this email finds you well.
I am emailing today in regards to the issue with your salary payments in regards to the ongoing Same Day Payments.
I have spoken with our payroll team and they have refereed this to our IT team for investigation, in the mean time they have added a manual process to ensure that future payments go via Same Day Payment, and added an adjustment for £35.00 which will reflect on your next salary payment.
Please accept my most sincere apologies that this has happened again, and we will endeavour to have this rectified as soon as possible.

which is shite to be honest , I don't see why I have to wait again due to something that is their mistake ( again ) but I'm so tired of all the chasing and the ranting I've been having to do , and oh , this isn't the phone call I was promised

Another day of swapping sticking plasters around to increasingly little effect. Stretched so thin it's only a matter of time before something really bad happens. There's nobody senior taking any responsibility for anything.

Fuck me I need a new job.

    Nowt out there though.

I think I might start to be making noises to them about sharing my displeasure and dissatisfaction with my wide network of contracting associates on a number of forums and groups across the Internet...

Hope you got things sorted ruffneck23.

This week has been hard going, one colleague still only speaking to me when she wants to push work onto me.

Had interview for an internal role this week, gave it a good shot but it wasn't my best performance so doubt I'll be successful.

    Feeling quite low really.

This weekend I'm working from home writing funding applications for one of the charities I work for (redundancy is pretty inevitable from the other one though), which if we got them (and its a real if) would give me the job I really want to do, minus some of the work frustrations of the last couple of years, and do right by our volunteers and the local community. I've been given a pretty free reign on this - which is great - but its frustrating that this didn't happen months/years ago!
I'm also applying for a job that's basically doing something very similar to what I do now, but for less pay, and with working hours that don't really suit me.

Your workplace was toxic enough as it was, and this process seems to have just brought that out even more. Which is shit.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if your heart wasn't in it as far as interviews for internal posts are concerned - I could well imagine that your unconscious is saying "wot, carry on working here? Fuck that!", even while your sensible brain is saying "well, it's a job...".

I think, too, that you've probably been so beaten down by the fairly constant abuse you've had over a very long period of time that it's getting in the way of you making your escape plans. It may even be that, once this is all over, you find yourself in a situation, even if you're between jobs, where the pressure is suddenly off and you can start thinking creatively towards achieving something much more productive and gratifying. Here's hoping!

I'm not surprised. They've spent years undermining and demoralising you, and then pulled the rug. You're completely entitled to feel that way...but it won't always be like this. ((equationgirl))

equationgirl I can't help thinking you're worth ten of any of the people in your office. And my wish for you this year is that you don't have to deal with them any more. It's not okay the way they treat you.

Thanks Bears, hopefully a nice job with less passive aggressive work colleagues just around the corner. And karmic payback happens.

The thing I use to console myself when confronted by twat-like behaviours is that those behaviours are the evidence of the karmic payback going on right now in their heads

We have someone who is now no longer with the organisation I'm on the board of. She shot herself repeatedly in the foot with her efforts to browbeat us into submission, and we didn't renew her contract after a meeting in which she refused to discuss anything other than the renewal of her contract.

Now, she's taken to passing on vague threats of unspecified "further action" via a third party, and demanding that someone from the organisation get in touch with her in order for her to withdraw that threat. The more we don't, the more insistent the threat-making happens, and it's patently obvious what's happened: she really didn't expect us not to cave into her bluster before we didn't renew her contract, and now she's desperately trying to bluff on an empty hand - the one thing that is increasingly obvious is that she's getting her karmic payback. It's sad - I don't want to see anyone feeling shit, but giving her her own way was not an option, or she'd have sunk us all - but on the other hand, we're watching her demonstrate increasingly effectively why we did the right thing in handling it the way we did.

The only downside to karmic payback is that the people who need it most are usually the ones worst able to recognise that it's happening.

it's been a funny sort of week or two.

having been somewhere between emergency and crisis for most of the last year, this has ended for the time being at least.

    and it feels odd.

I think the toxicity of my work environment got to me, I definitely feel much better at home. Unless I win the lottery though, I won't get paid to stay here.

You will. With your skills and experience anyone would be nuts to pass you over, I know it's a more specialised area of work you are in but still, keep that positivity in mind.

Working in toxic environments tends to grind you down over time, been there and experienced it, when you come out the other side you look back and think - how the fuck did I put up with all this shit? I'm worth more than that in terms of my mental health, self-image, confidence! And you are!
