Work Christmas 'do'

Christmas do !!!

We always organise ours about two weeks out, b/c no one has time to do anything before. So we never go anywhere good really - and work doesn't pay. So we usually just to a pub and get drunk, but most people I work with I love, so we always have a great time. Last year we had a quiz which I thought would be horrendous, but ended up being great fun. Except there was lots of questions relating to either 70s England or panto which completely eluded me. :hmm:

Luckily having children gives me a ready made excuse to get out of these dreadful affairs.

"oh its karaoke and cheap plonk on a Thames river boat this year, so sorry cannot make it childcare issues.."

NHS, so I'm paying £35 (!) for a shitty 3 course meal in a hospitality suite al Bramall Lane (whice has pissed a few Wednesday fans off no end) followed by a shit disco where I'll be dragged onto the dancefloor by a load of pissed nurses and anaesthetists. Woot.

Ours was paid for last year. Nice meal at a posh-ish place in the centre of town, can't remember what it's called.

Dunno this year, nothing's been said, so I'd imagine it's not happening.

Really not that fussed, to be honest. I'd rather have an afternoon off...

I've never been to a work christmas 'do'. (This is what you get for long term temping and working with weirdoes) However, they do sound like hell, so I'm quite glad really.

Been a waitress for quite a few of them, though.

I'm glad it's not just me who thinks like that...one of my colleagues phoned me from work when I had the week off recently "just for a chat". I was horrified!:D

I find if you return the call at 3am while drunk and crying, they will give you a wide berth.

Last Year we were taken to stay in a 4X hotel in Latvia , with all meals ( and drink with meals ) paid for , admittedly it was only the dublin branch of the company that was taken , as there were only 7 staff there , the uk lot didnt get anythig... :D

god knows this year as im at a different company!!

Ours are not hell, but people don't seem to understand why I don't want to spent £30 of my own money to go out with them. It was different when it was free.

Another thing as well is that most people drive or get lifts home, I have to get the bus or a taxi and the frigging SS Great Britain is miles from the nearest bus stop.

Being a student, I don't get to go to work dos.

BUT

It's also my birthday at Christmas, so I get to organise something I enjoy.

And I get an almost "work do" vibe at the inlaws on Christmas Eve..

I like my work mates, I choose to spend to time with them and we go climbing and paddling. One of them saved my life the other day. :)
