WOMAD, 24-28 July 2008, Charlton Park, Wiltshire -- who's going??

"Investigates oracles" :p

/Leaks a plausibly-deniable rumour ....

Could be a return to traditionally warm and sunny WOMADs of yore by late next week

You heard it here first if it's true ...

I never said nuffin mate, if it isn't :o

"Proof later" :D

I'm in! :)

Completely new site layout this year judging by the map on the website. :)

William just for once is it possible that you could shut up about the fucking weather!

Yeah there's been massive changes, I've suggested to a few people who went last year that they print the new map out (I have) cos we'll need it!!

One big other change I found out about,. it looks like Bath Ales will not be running the beer tents this year. The Workers Beer Company seem to have been taken on. One of the WBC's team leaders at Glastonbury who'll also be working for the WBC at WOMAD told me this.

On the map though, a 'real ale tent' is shown in the North West corner of the site. So who knows .... but I've asked the guy to ask around a bit about ale choice implications and I'll post the answer up if I get one ...

It was a total mudbath last year as you know. Some might be relieved -- happy, even? -- that we may very well escape another one this time.

Hence, shutting up? No :p

I offer forecasts (or early hints of them), you can ignore them or take notice of them as you like. Some people find them useful, not just me. And I was actually taking the piss out of myself ... you took it seriously .... :(

Bath Ales website says...

Diary dates...

Friday 25 to Sunday 27 July

Bath Ales will be at Womad music festival near Malmsbury

That's good enough for me!

PS I'm after a campervan ticket if anyone has one going spare.

Oh I hadn't seen that, ta.

That means that there'll be Bath Ales round and about then :) , just that they won't be actually running the beer tents from what I've heard ... maybe?? it'll be a Glasto type deal within WBC tents analagous with Wherry's preferred status etc.

If I find anything else out I'll post though ...

Or, indeed, comment on them.

This being a bulletin board and whatnot.

I know and I don't disagree -- I was just commenting back.

We're at a festival every weekend this summer with the exception of August Bank Holiday weekend (and even then, I'm helping Deb out at her beer festival that she's the Queen of!).

Damp muddy rainy ones do get to you after a while (you still have fun, obv. ),. so I keep checking prospects (far far too much admittedly :o ) in the hope of avoiding them. If the sun comes back to WOMAD this time, the smiles and happiness on peoples' faces will be that much more than if it doesn't ... good weather made a major difference (compared to 2007) at Glastonbury!

You haven't ever considered any of the European ones, then?

There's heaps of them and they seem to be much better weather-wise.

Yeah, that Sziget in Budapeast looks great frinstance, also there's a Serbian one that look intriguing ... And there's another (more hippyish :p ) one in central Spain in May that I've forgotten the name of . We had a grand time at the Dragon Festival (Southern Spain, free!) in March also, with the equivalent of (good) UK May weather at Easter.

Might be a way forward. When we have time. But money will be tighter next year, we're being ultra reckless with both time and cash this summer.

Anyway there's plenty of excellence on the lineup at WOMAD this year, shaping up to be a classic I'd say! :D.

What are you looking forward to most?

The Thursday night reggae session hosted by Adrian Sherwood  looks kike an excellent start ... :)

What are you looking forward to most?

Shantel & Bukovina Orkestar for me. Missed them at Glastonbury as they weren’t on until 2am on the Monday morning & my legs had stopped working by then. Just a shame they clash with Eddie Grant as I deliberately missed him at Glastonbury because I knew he was also going to be at WOMAD. :(

Does anyone know how the wristband system works at Womad. Obviously you exchange your ticket for a band but does this then enable you to make trips between campsite and car park, or only campsite to arena?

Its just that we have so much shite with us because of various baby contraptions my partner insists we need, I'll probably have to make a couple of runs to the car.

Sorry if its a stupid question but we've never been to Womad and I know what some festival security can be like.

it's not a stoopid question, in the past Womad have had some very odd arrangements. However last year the wristband was only required to get in and out of the site, and there was no problem going back and forth to the carparks. Once inside there was no insane checking around the stages or anything like that, you could wander freely around camping & entertainment areas. Course, they might have changed everything this year.

To add to your dilemma Tort :( ...

Eddie Grant at Glastonbury was fantastic

We definitely want to see him again .....

That's as maybe but there is NO WAY I'm missing Shantel again!

Sean Kuti was excellent at Lovebox on Sunday. Well worth a watch.

.... oh, and we've got a campervan ticket! :D

I'm going tomorrow, its going to be a bit of a culture shock after glade last weekend (esp the jacuzzi!! :hmm:) but I'm looking forward to it.

I'm not in the mood for any overdemanding up themselves middle class parents though. They were completely over the top last year but we let it go because they were stressed about the mud. This year they will be NICE!

I havent looked at the lineup but I'm looking forward to the music.
