Hi , on a whim , i went and got a netgear asdl wireless router thingy , however i get broadband from ntl through a set top box , before i take it out of the box , have i gone and got the wrong type of router???

thanks in advance :)

Not necessarily. You could still use it as a wireless router, provided your NTL modem has an ethernet out and the two can be connected.

you need a wireless router like the Linksys WRT54GS. I think its pretty annoying that they just don't build in some extra ports so that an adsl wireless router like the one you bought can also work with cable.

oh really ??? well from the set top box is an ethernet connection / laed that goes through a converter to convert to USB to go back into the laptop , and the router does have ethernet out , so are you ( before i take it out the box ) that this will work????

I imagine so, but I'm not certain. Someone here will be able to confirm that you can do this, but I'm fairly sure it should work, unless it's only modems with certain specifications.

It's hardly the best use of the money tho. Best return it and spend the cash on something purposefully designed for the job methinks.
