Winter coats

It's too mild to bother with winter coats anymore - I got one last year cos it was supposed to be really cold and only wore it once and sweated like a sweaty thing. Will wear last year's winter coat if it is colder this year - is that such a bad thing?

I'm getting another leopard print one too, Shirl - got my eye on one and I'm after a hooded leather bomber from Topshop.

Then I want a black totally warm thing from somewhere.....

And then a limegreen 60's one like this:

So that's too much for me to buy now :D

Oooh, I love that green coat!

I haven't managed to get to town yet but I'll definitely go to Debenhams and have a look at that one. Do you know if they do it in black? :)

I don't but the brand name's on the site - they might have more outlets or something? It's called Fish something or Herring something....I think...

I've got to get a new one this year, my one is two years old but I'm going to wait until it's really cold.

I wouldn't have been surprised to see snow this morning when I got up. :(

no OU it's not a bad thing - I still wear most of my coats.
Mine is one of those bouncer coats though - it's Stussy but it's just black and makes me look like a blimp (I didn't choose it)

I have no opinions on men's coats - I think you're woefully underprovided for. It's either bouncer coat/businessman coat/leather jacket.

Edit: and camo of course :D

I know. And they're too hot. It's best just to layer.

i liek layering, but i also like having a nice winter coat. what i don't like is when it's really cold and you've got your nice sensible clothing on, all wrapped up snuggly and you get on the bus and the heaters are on full whack and nobody wants to open the windows to get some frsh air in and then you go in a shop and they have the heating on full whack and you get all sweaty and annoyed and...it's annoying.

Yeah that's pretty much it - for variation you can go for dark brown or blue instead of black (wooo)

Ooh, one of those has just opened in our town. What's the quality like though?

I'm going to wear the same leather jacket I've worn for the last 8 winters, because it's warm and robust. when it falls apart, I'll buy a new one, but I don't expect that to happen for at least another 10 years. In order to look good, I'll brush my hair :)

I've had the same winter coat for a similar period of time, 3/4 length suede thing that I love to bits and has so many mended rips, I just don't want to let it go...

I also got given two new coats by two friends this year, how lucky is that?

I couldn't even begin to justify getting a new one, I have too many already.

That's what I feared. :(

I like my clothes to last. :)

Then I suggest you avoid Primark.

The clothes are cheep and cheerful, and designed to fall apart after a few weeks.

Also, I think there's a question mark about their ethical practices.
I'm sure someone more knowledgeable about that will be along in a while to fill in the details.

Debenhams have a half price sale next week, exclusive offers for card holders too - I'm just sayin' ...

Am hitting Primark on Friday for a coat. I don't necessarily want anything too heavy, just something that fits would be nice. Oh, and it has to be beautiful :)

e2a after reading Primark comments: I agree, the quality is shite - but for something very cheap I can re-hem it if it starts to come apart. I'm fatter than this time last year, but I hope to be thinner this time next year, so anything I buy now *hopefully* won't fit next year - so I don't want to spend a lot, and if it falls apart over the winter it won't matter anyway.

Course not. I hope no-one gets the impression from this thread that it's normal for people to get a new winter coat every year. I don't think it is and if we want it to STOP getting warmer every year then we flaming well shouldn't anyway! Prior to last year I was averaging about one every four years I think.

Oooh, that's exciting!

Ruby, I haven't had a new coat for years! My old one is a bit bobbly now and looks really tatty so I thought I should treat myself to a new one this year. :)

Each to their own i suppose but i've never had much problem with primarks stuff ...........

and i simply cannot afford to spend a lot of money !

mind you if it's anything like last year there won't be that much need for a big coat !

need a few woolies really !
