Winter coats

I need a new winter coat. I want a classic ish style one to my knees in purple. Anyone got any suggestions ?

there's a nice dark purple one in debenhams at the mo. might be red herring label, not sure.

i was looking for coats too this week, i've seen a few but nothing's leapt out at me. i think it might be too warm for a proper coat, but all the jackety stuff is a bit too short. i'm fussy :(

i have a selection of fleeces (3) a northface waterproof for rainy days, a pea coat if i fancy looking like an off duty merchant seaman:cool: and a couple of hoodies to wear with the fleeces, i think i'm sorted:)

I used to wear milesy's gloverall duffle and it was the best, made me feel all cosy and paddington like

Oh Tanky, that is gorgeous.

I bought a fab cardigan-coat from Monsoon, which isn't on their website for some reason. I've also got a black military style coat from M&S, which is on its third winter, and a dogtooth fifties style swing coat with big buttons which is very Audrey Hepburn. I fancy something in red or orange this year, to go with my fab bright red fake patent leather bag which I bought in Turkey.

Wow

Wow

I don't buy winter coats. I got given a duvet of a coat from a blerk who worked on the F1 Jaguar team. Fucking love it, it's about 10 years old now and still the best coat I've ever had  Good use of pockets, with an inside zip up, an outside zip up, two massive thigh-height ones that have side ones incorporated onto the outside of them, plus good thick comfy collar, non-elasticated but adjustable-button storm cuffs, and the warmest thing I've had on my back since I don't know when

I tried a couple of coats on in TK Maxx and Marks yesterday but they just weren't right. I'm really funny about pockets - I have to be able to put my hands in them comfortably iyswim. Especially when I am walking the little one to school.

And I want to be able to try before I buy which puts me off buying on the internet.

I can't wear my old one anymore, it's really bobbly and tatty now - I look like a right tramp. :o

So the search goes on................... :D

I'm starting to feel shamed by my coat. It. Well. I bought it many years ago (10?) and I think my tastes have changed now. Good job I don't get cold innit.

Now, that is the sort of thing I need!

Unfortunately, because I'm a shorty, it will probably drag along the floor! :D

They do them in the petite range too moomoo - and in cream (defo not me! :D ) too.

Although - what you said about the pockets.....I agree and these ones are not comfy pockets...the angle's all wrong.... :(

Still! :D

Not if it fits well!
I bought a big beautiful loooooooooooong purple scarf other day....ready for a gorgeous jacket

are the sleeves actually three-quarter length, or are they pushed up like that?

I lke three-quarter length jacket sleeves, and I think it's gorgeous, but i wouldn't wear it because it would be most unflattering to my boobs.

that's quite an elegant coat you've got there sheo, yo sure you haven't made a mistake?

i've just ordered this one:

hope the sleeves are long enough - i find that most shops assume that a skinny bloke will have very short arms.

I got one like that from a charity shop last year. I think an old farmer had died in it :)
